Last week, we reported that the former Full House star Dave Coulier has been diagnosed with a “very aggressive” form of cancer at age 65. As expected, he’s seen an outpouring of support and love from his family and friends.

But at least one friend stepped in it while apparently trying to show some support.

John Stamos Shows ‘Solidarity’ For Coulier

On Monday, Coulier’s former Full House co-star John Stamos took to Instagram to share some photos of himself wearing a bald cap in “solidarity” with his cancer-stricken friend, who recently shaved his head after being diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Unfortunately for Stamos, however, this is backfiring on him big time as fans are calling this move “insulting” and ripping it as a “shallow gesture.”

“Nothing like throwing on a bald cap and flexing some Photoshop skills to show some love and solidarity with my bro @dcoulier,” Stamos, 61, wrote in the caption.

“You’re handling this with so much strength and positivity—it’s inspiring,” he continued. “I know you’re going to get through this, and I’m proud to stand with you every step of the way. I love you.”

Fans Rip Into Stamos

Based on the comments from fans, however, it quickly became clear that this may have been the wrong move.

“Hate to be that person but this is more insulting by putting on a bald cap then not shaving ur head. A person with cancer doesn’t have a “cap” they can take off,” one fan explained. “Prayers and strength to Dave!!!”

“What a shallow gesture! Couldn’t even cut your hair off for your friend,” another outraged fan added. “And you made sure to post it on Instagram to get those likes too.”

“This is the dumbest thing I’ve seen ‘threw on a bald cap in solidarity,'” a third person commented. “That’s like saying I wear rags in the streets while pushing a cart in solidarity with the unhoused or something.”

“God bless Dave, but is this really appropriate?” yet another fan wrote. “A bald cap is showing solidarity? You can just take your cap off and be ‘normal’ again. When people take this route they actually shave their head. I can’t help but feel that you’re using Dave’s diagnoses as a way to make yourself more likeable.”

At the time of this writing, Stamos has yet to respond to the growing backlash against him.

Coulier’s Cancer Diagnosis

Coulier shocked his fans when he announced his diagnosis to the world while appearing on the Today show.

“[I was] feeling like I got punched in the stomach because it never happens to you,” he said at the time. “You always hear about it happening to someone else.”

Coulier’s initial symptom was a lump in his groin that kept growing. His doctors became concerned and ordered various tests, which led to his diagnosis.

“Three days later, my doctors called me back and they said, ‘We wish we had better news for you, but you have non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and it’s called B cell and it’s very aggressive,’” Coulier recalled to People Magazine.

“I went from, I got a little bit of a head cold to I have cancer, and it was pretty overwhelming,” he continued. “This has been a really fast roller coaster ride of a journey.”

Though this form of cancer is “very aggressive,” Coulier has since been told that his cancer is in the “90 percent” curable range.

While Stamos’ heart was likely in the right place, perhaps the bald cap was the wrong way to go on this one. Even so, it’s still nice to see him show support for Coulier during this difficult time.

Please join us in saying a prayer for Coulier as his cancer battle continues!
