Kate Middleton spent much of last year battling an unspecified form of cancer. Her courage and grace have been inspiring to others fighting the disease, and one fellow patient explained exactly what it is about the Princess that has them feeling encouraged.
Cancer Patient Defends Kate
Yesterday, we reported that Kate visited the Royal Marsden Hospital earlier this week. This was where she received her successful chemotherapy and radiation treatments, so the visit was a special one to her.
During Kate’s visit, she met with cancer patient Angela Terry, who said afterwards that talking to the royal gave her a much-needed boost.
“She was there to say thank you to the people who had looked after her, talk to patients who were in a similar situation,” Terry gushed to People Magazine. “It was a great message of hope because she looked so well.”
“We don’t need to know what cancer she had,” she continued. “We just know she’s been through surgery, she’s been through chemo — and one year later, my goodness, look, she is here.”
She sure is, and she’s back to performing royal duties. But undoubtedly, more important to her is being able to be amongst the people again.
Terry, 71, has been battling EGFR-positive lung cancer since 2019. She was at the Royal Marsden Hospital for her usual treatment on Tuesday when Kate shocked everyone by showing up for a surprise appearance. A Kensington Palace spokesperson explained that Kate wanted to visit to “show her gratitude to the incredible team, but also highlight the world leading care and treatment the Marsden provides.”

Terry Praises Kate
Terry went on to praise Kate for waiting until after her visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital to confirm that her cancer has gone into remission. It seems that Kate did that out of respect for the patients who are still fighting for their lives against cancer.
“It might have been difficult if she had come in talking about her experience about being in remission first because some people who are really very ill might never get to remission and that would have felt tricky,” Terry explained. “But she chose to do that after she had left which speaks volumes.”
“When I read later in the day that Kate is in remission, that doesn’t mean she’s through it. This disease changes you, but it also gives you an opportunity to think: ‘Okay, who am I now? Who do I want to be?’ ” she added. “It’s an opportunity to be true to yourself and choose to let certain things go, friendships or other things that no longer make sense. It’s such a weird disease, it stops you and makes you evaluate and review your life which can be exciting.”

Kate ‘Has Such Poise And Elegance’
Terry also said that Kate “was so much more than” she expected her to be.
“She has such poise and elegance, extremely genuine and sincere,” Terry gushed. “She is very personable. I watched her talking to other patients and she’s amazing,” Terry says. “She has this gentle eye contact as she talks, she reaches out and maybe touches their shoulder or holds their hand and her smile is always there. The level of connection she makes with each and every person she meets is phenomenal.”
In the end, meeting Kate was an experience that Terry will never forget.
“I’m still buzzing, it was so fortuitous because I was literally the next one in for bloods,” Terry concluded. “I just caught her eye as she walked past and said to her ‘You look wonderful,’ because she did, she looked fabulous given everything she has been through and she just smiled and said ‘So do you.'”
Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis to the world in March of last year. She said at the time that it had been discovered when she underwent abdominal surgery two months before.
After months of grueling chemotherapy treatments, Kate declared herself to be “cancer free” in September. Kate’s confirmation that her cancer is in “remission” this week has come as a relief to her millions of fans all over the world.
We have to agree with Terry that Kate doesn’t need to tell the world the type of cancer that she has. Instead, Kate should be free to keep that to herself as she continues to inspire us all with her strength and dignity.
God bless you, Kate Middleton!
