In the weeks since the premiere of her new Netflix series With Love, Meghan, Meghan Markle has received her fair share of backlash. Indeed, the lifestyle show was panned by fans and critics alike.
Now, however, Meghan has found an unlikely defender in the form of The View co-host Joy Behar. The 82 year-old comedienne just launched into a defense of Meghan that was nothing short of bizarre.
The View Co-Hosts Sound Off
On a recent episode of her ABC talk show The View, Joy and her fellow hosts discussed the Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow’s response to a claim that Meghan, 43, is “moving in on her territory as a lifestyle guru.”
For her part, Paltrow did her best to slap down the rumors.
“I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes,” Gwyneth, 52, told Vanity Fair. “I think there’s always more than enough to go around. Everybody deserves an attempt at everything that they want to try.”
Gwyneth went on to recall her Hollywood star mother Blythe Danner, 82, telling her, “Another woman is never your competition. … What is right for you will find you.”
Joy approved of this, saying on The View that she’s noticed that women are “sticking together more than we used to” these days.
“What men get asked that?” co-host Ana Navarro, 53, chimed in to question. “Someone’s always trying to pick catfights amongst women.”
Their co-host Sara Haines, 47, explained that she’s always been closer to women who don’t view themselves as competing with others over a job.
“There are two types of women I’ve run into,” Sara recounted. “The ones that will shank you, and the ones that will lift you.”
“You know what’s amazing, though? What an influence on culture Meghan Markle has,” Ana added. “I feel like she gets discussed all the time. Some people like her, some people hate her, some people don’t care.”
Joy Defends Meghan
That’s when Joy launched into her defense of Meghan. She said that when it comes to the wife of Prince Harry, there’s “something about her that triggers people.” Joy then went so far as to say that this stems from jealousy because “we all wanted to marry a prince. So everyone is jealous of her, is that it?”
What?! No, it most certainly is not “it,” Joy.
Many would argue that there are plenty of people who despise Meghan and never had any desire to marry a prince themselves.

Meghan Accused Of Being ‘Inauthentic’
Joy is conveniently ignoring just how widely panned With Love, Meghan was. It can’t be denied that Meghan’s attempt at rebranding herself as a lifestyle guru has blown up in her face. Critics have branded Meghan as coming off as “inauthentic” in the show. Variety blasted With Love, Meghan as being a “Montecito ego trip not worth taking” in a review that held nothing back.
“The show plays out like a forced march, one in which Meghan’s guests must, as the price of getting to share an afternoon in a made-for-TV kitchen with her, praise her first,” Variety stated. “With Love, Meghan is made with a great deal of love – in the sense that the greatest love of all is the one that a person has for herself.”

Perhaps that’s why Meghan is getting so much hate these days, Joy. Instead of being jealous of Meghan, it’s clear that the bulk of the public has had enough of her inauthenticity.
In the end, Meghan’s “haters” aren’t “triggered” by her at all. Instead, they’re simply tired of her and her nonsense, and would much prefer it if she would just go away.
