Last week, we reported that ABC had indefinitely suspended Jimmy Kimmel’s late night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely over vile comments that he made about the assassination of the conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
On Monday, it was announced by ABC that Kimmel’s suspension has been lifted. Indeed, Kimmel is set to return to late night on Tuesday evening.
Now, the former talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has broken her silence to address Kimmel’s suspension for the first time. This comes months after DeGeneres fled the country and moved to England with her wife Portia de Rossi.
DeGeneres Supports Kimmel
Like virtually every other member of Hollywood’s liberal elite, DeGeneres was quick to throw her support behind Kimmel.
“Cannot wait to hear @JimmyKimmel’s monologue tomorrow,” DeGeneres, 67, wrote on Instagram. She penned this alongside a screenshot of an article announcing Kimmel’s return.
Unfortunately for DeGeneres, however, it didn’t take long for this to blow up in her face. Within minutes of the post going live, DeGeneres found herself being roasted in her own comments section.
“The left standing up for a job lost but celebrating an assassin is revolting,” one social media user commented. Another added, “Hope Disney & ABC continue to lose millions for giving JK a platform for his free speech.”
“Ellen sure is brave now that she’s hiding in another country,” a third user wrote. A fourth stated, “Why do celebrities always think we care what their thoughts are on politics, especially when they have moved out of our country?”
Yet another commenter wrote, “I sure hope he apologizes to the Kirk family and send his condolences. There is no joking allowed when you are talking about the death of another person.”
Kimmel’s Suspension
This all started on Monday, September 15. That night, Kimmel falsely suggested that Kirk’s assassin was “MAGA.” In reality, the shooter was a radicalized young man who held far-left ideologies, according to investigators.
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said on Monday night.
The backlash against Kimmel was swift. Last Wednesday, Kimmel was shocked to learn that he had been suspended indefinitely. He got this news mere hours before he was set to go on the air for his nightly program.
Friends of Kimmel then told Daily Mail that the 57 year-old comedian was “angry but unbowed.” He reportedly firmly believed that Disney, which is ABC’s parent company, caved to political pressure.
Check out Kimmel’s comments that started all of this in the video below.
DeGeneres Flees America Over Trump
Meanwhile, DeGeneres fled the country because of Donald Trump after he won his second presidential election back in November.
During a live conversation in England over the summer, DeGeneres was asked directly if Trump’s presidential victory played a role in her decision to leave the country.
“Yes,” replied DeGeneres. “We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in.’ And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.'”
Many would argue that both DeGeneres and Kimmel are two wealthy liberal elites who have lost all touch with reality. Here’s hoping that Kimmel eventually takes a page out of DeGeneres’ playbook and flees the country himself. In the end, America would be better off without both Kimmel and DeGeneres!
