Earlier this week, we reported that the legendary former Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson had passed away at the age of 79 following a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Now, Phil’s daughter-in-law Korie is opening up to reveal that the Robertson family patriarch’s death was “so hard to watch.”
Korie Speaks Out
Days before Phil died, Korie told The New York Post that he was “declining really rapidly.” She went on to say that seeing Phil go through the process of dying was “so hard to watch.”
“But he’s so loved, and all the family is just coming around him and taking really good care of him,” Korie added.
Phil, Korie, and the rest of the Robertson family starred on the hit reality show Duck Dynasty for 11 seasons from 2012 until 2017. A&E has brought back the show as Duck Dynasty: The Revival, which is set to premiere on Sunday night.
In her interview days before Phil’s death, however, Korie confirmed that he would not be appearing on the new show.
“He is not able to be on the show at this time,” Korie said.
Korie’s Final Visit With Phil
Korie also revealed that she and her daughter Sadie Robertson Huff, 27, visited Phil just before his death.
“He’s not saying very much anymore,” she lamented. “He doesn’t speak a lot.”
Despite this, Korie recalled that during their visit, Phil “looked up and said something like, ‘full steam ahead.’ It was so sweet.”
“He didn’t say anything else that made sense, but he just said that to [Sadie], and it was just really special,” she concluded, adding that the family was “cherishing” these precious final moments with Phil.

Korie Announces Phil’s Death
It was Korie who revealed to the world that Phil had passed away on Sunday night.
“We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord,” Korie began on Instagram. “He reminded us often of the words of Paul, ‘you do not grieve like those who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.’”
“Thank you for the love and prayers of so many whose lives have been impacted by his life saved by grace, his bold faith, and by his desire to tell everyone who would listen the Good News of Jesus,” she continued. “We are grateful for his life on earth and will continue the legacy of love for God and love for others until we see him again.”

Miss Kay’s Health Decline
Sadly, Korie has since revealed that Phil’s beloved wife Kay, 77, is also not doing well. Kay was able to appear in some episodes of Duck Dynasty: The Revival. However, she’s had to take a step back as her health declined.
“She’s actually in quite a few of the early episodes of this season,” Korie said. “As the season went on, she had some health issues, too. And she’s not been able to be on anymore.”
“So we’re just thankful that Kay got to be on some of the earlier episodes, and we’re going to really cherish those,” Korie concluded.
This has clearly been a very difficult time for the entire Robertson family. Please join us in saying a prayer for them, and may Phil Robertson rest in peace!
