Yesterday, we reported that Duane “Dog The Bounty Hunter” Chapman’s 13 year-old grandson was accidentally shot dead by his own father on Saturday. Now, this case has taken a truly disturbing turn as new details are coming to light.
Dog’s Stepson Placed On Psychiatric Hold
Dog’s stepson Gregory Zecca has been put on a psychiatric hold after he fatally shot his 13 year-old son Anthony. Gregory is the 38 year-old son of Dog’s current wife Francie Chapman.
A rep for the family told TMZ that Gregory has been put on a 5150 psychiatric hold because of his grief over the loss of his son, who was his only child. Indeed, he was placed on this psychiatric hold amidst concerns that he might try to take his own life.
The rep stressed that Gregory is on the psychiatric hold because of grief, not because he feels guilty of any crime related to the shooting. Police have described the tragedy as being a “freak accident,” and no arrests have been made at this time. However, Gregory has not been able to speak to family or the police yet because he has been heavily sedated over the past few days.

Police Respond To Shooting Call
Police were called to Gregory’s home in Naples, Florida at 8:08 p.m. ET. By the time they arrived at the scene, Anthony had already lost a large amount of blood. Anthony then received CPR, chest compressions and a chest seal in desperate attempts to save his life. Sadly, this was to no avail, and Anthony was pronounced dead at 8:21 p.m. ET.
When police arrived, the firearm that had been used in the shooting was sitting on the kitchen island.
“The call came into our dispatch at 8:08 p.m. This was an isolated incident,” a spokesperson for The Collier County Sheriff’s Office told Daily Mail.
“Our detectives are conducting a thorough investigation looking into all the elements of this tragic incident,” the spokesperson later added. “The investigation includes statements from witnesses who were at the scene, forensic testing, subpoenas, and search warrants.”
Gregory is Francie’s son from a previous marriage. He has become incredibly close to Dog, even working on his bounty hunting team.
Gregory is also a known gun enthusiast. In 2021, he took to social media to post photos of himself and Anthony “getting some range time in” with their rifles.
Dog And Francie Devastated
Dog and Francie have also been left devastated by Anthony’s death. They were hands-on grandparents who had Anthony spend the summer with them last year.
“We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible tragic accident and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony,” Dog and Francie said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Francie is Dog’s sixth wife. They began dating in 2020, one year after Dog’s wife Beth died of stage II throat cancer. They bonded over their shared grief of losing spouses, as Francie had lost her husband Bob Frane in 2018.
“We understood the pain that the other one was feeling, and [in] those tough days and moments, we helped each other stand up,” Francie told Entertainment Tonight in 2020.
“[Dog and I] could cry with each other and talk about what we were feeling,” she added. “We were able to walk alongside each other through the pain and heartbreak, and it brought us together in this amazing way.”
