The Hollywood star Dennis Quaid is speaking out to reveal why he fled Los Angeles, California and moved to Nashville, Tennessee.
Quaid Ditches California For Tennessee
Quaid, 72, joined the mass exodus of L.A. residents who are leaving the California city in 2020. Indeed, Quaid moved to Nashville that year with his wife Lauren Savoie, 33.
Quaid told Fox News that though he lived in Los Angeles for decades, he eventually became disillusioned with the way the far-left city is being managed. This particularly became apparent after the devastating California fires that occurred in early 2025.
“It used to be such a great town and the ’90s was nice. And then it’s been kind of going downhill. I feel like people pay these taxes for no services is what it gets down to,” Quaid lamented. “And then fire happens and it kind of exposes all those things that go on that should be taken care of. So people are angry and half angry. And they’re half kind of feel like giving up, to tell you the truth.”
“I’m just one of thousands who have left, and I don’t know, I hope the town comes back,” he continued. “I really do. It used to be such a fantastic town, it was. It was a great community, too. And something’s happened. People need to be inspired there.”
Quaid Calls Out Hollywood’s ‘Double Standard’
Quaid has long been known as one of the only openly conservative stars working in Hollywood. Earlier this year, he had the courage to call out Hollywood out for what he feels is the “double standard” when it comes to support for President Donald Trump.
“There’s either ‘F Trump’ from the other side or ‘I love Trump’ from a few of us who speak about it,” Quaid told Fox News back in March.
“Of course, there’s a double standard, but there’s a double standard on everything,” he added. “You’ve got common sense. And then you’ve got like some kind of whipped-up scenario where, you know, it might be true, you know, that I could compete in women’s sports or, you know, that I could, whatever, vote twice or whatever it is.”
Though he’s not afraid to call Hollywood out on its hypocrisy, Quaid is still enjoying his acting career more than he did in his 20s and 30s. He explained that this is “because I’m not trying to like, you know, be somebody or, you know, get awards or this or that. I’m doing things because I really love to do them. And that makes it so much fun. And especially when you have fire in your belly to do it, you know, it’s just a blast.”
More Celebrities Flee California
Quaid is just one of many celebrities who have fled California in search of a better life in other states in recent years. Other stars who have done the same thing include Mark Wahlberg, Sylvester Stallone, Kirk Cameron, Gary Sinise, and more.
If California leaders want the rich and famous to remain residents of their state, perhaps they should rethink some of the far-left policies that are pushing stars like Quaid away. In the end, we can certainly see why a proud American patriot like Quaid would ditch liberal California for Tennessee.
God bless you, Dennis Quaid!
