Earlier this week, we reported that Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi had allegedly backtracked on fleeing America for England and were plotting a return to the U.S. This came months after they fled the country due to the second presidential victory of Donald Trump.
DeGeneres and de Rossi are reportedly are eager to return to sunny California just to avoid another chilly winter in England. As they allegedly prepare to make their American return, the two wealthy Hollywood elites are being ruthlessly mocked by the people on both sides of the pond on their way out the door.
DeGeneres And de Rossi Hilariously Mocked
DeGeneres and de Rossi claimed to have fled America due to political reasons over Trump’s victory. However, all it took was one British winter to send them crawling back. This has made the pair something of an object of ridicule in England, with the British feeling like they need to toughen up a bit.
“I understand being homesick, but you lose a bit of street cred if you flee creeping fascism only to run straight back to it because you’re not used to being a bit chilly,” Arwa Mahdawi wrote for the British publication The Guardian. “As my mother would say: just put on another jumper, Ellen! Abandon your weird American ideas about how the sky ought to be blue.”
The U.K. Times also took shots at DeGeneres and de Rossi through columnist Kevin Maher. He went so far as to write, “poor little Hollywood millionaires, are their tootsies getting cold in their Fendi wellies?”
If DeGeneres and de Rossi are hoping for a warm welcome here in the states, they may be in for a big surprise. Indeed, the American publication Cracked also had no sympathy for the two of them.
“Like, seriously, half of America has a harsher winter than the one that the (UK) gets,” wrote Keagan Kelly. “If DeGeneres ever spent a single Christmas in upstate New York, she’d probably come out of the experience talking about it like she’s Tiny Tim Cratchit.”
DeGeneres Comes Crawling Back To America
This comes as insiders are claiming that DeGeneres and de Rossi have had enough of England after just one year. The couple have reportedly been telling friends that they’re eager to return to Southern California because they “miss their friends.” They are also dreading the idea of going through another dreary British winter.
“Ellen was adamant that she and Portia were going to stay in the UK while Trump was in the White House. But evidently she’s changed her mind somewhat,” an insider told Daily Mail over the weekend.
“She’s been telling friends they are coming home soon because they miss them and can’t take the winters over there. And Portia wants to act again,” the source continued. “They will be here for the holidays and longer by the sound of it.”
“Ellen was very clear that they’re coming back to California sooner rather than later,” the insider concluded. “They miss the warm weather and their friends.”
DeGeneres’ Previous Comments
This is a complete 180 from what DeGeneres was saying as recently by July. When asked by a reporter that month if she’d moved to the U.K. because of Trump, Degeneres immediately replied “Yes.”
“We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in,'” DeGeneres said. “And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.'”
Not stopping there, DeGeneres then claimed that they were loving their new life in rural England.
“It’s absolutely beautiful,” she alleged. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture – everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.
“It’s clean,” DeGeneres added. “Everything here is just better – the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.”
Oh, how times have changed, right Ellen?
It is nothing short of hilarious that after being so self righteous about fleeing America for England, all it took was one British winter to send DeGeneres and de Rossi crawling back. We truly wish they had at least one more British winter in them, because we can certainly say that they aren’t missed in the states.
Here’s hoping that DeGeneres and de Rossi will at least return to America with a little more appreciation for all that our country has to offer, including the weather!
