Over the past few years, celebrities have been fleeing California in droves in search of better lives in other states. One of these celebrities is the former The Wonder Years star Danica McKellar, who left California and moved to Tennessee three years ago.
Now, McKellar is speaking out in a new interview to reveal why she and so many other stars have left California. She’s also revealing that she has no regrets about fleeing California for a simpler life in Tennessee.
McKellar Talks Leaving California
McKellar, 50, had lived in California for forty years when she decided to move. This decision came after her stepson graduated from high school. It was then that McKellar and her husband decided that it was time to try starting a new life somewhere else.
“I don’t know, California and Los Angeles didn’t feel like it used to for us, and I wanted to be closer to Draco so he didn’t have to be flying so far, and so I liked Tennessee,” McKellar said while appearing on Christine Taylor and David Lascher’s podcast “Hey Dude… The 90s Called!”
“We came to Tennessee and loved it, found this great house and we were ready for a change. I lived in Los Angeles for 40 years,” she continued. McKellar added that she and her husband “wanted more nature. We wanted to be surrounded by more green.”
McKellar Doubles Down
Lascher responded by admitting that he’s considered moving out of California himself. He explained that he has many celebrity friends who have already left the state.
“I have a lot of friends that moved, you know, Melissa [Joan Hart] has been in Tennessee for a long time,” he stated. “My good friend [screenwriter and director] Doug Ellin just all of a sudden up and moved to Nashville, I mean, a lot of people from L.A.“
McKellar was quick to agree, saying that “a lot of people live out here now, because we also learned during COVID that you don’t really have to be in one particular place for jobs.”
As for Taylor, who is married to the comedic Hollywood star Ben Stiller, she left California many years ago. Instead of living in Los Angeles, they call New York home.
“We moved out of L.A. when our kids were really young,” she said. “And that was a deliberate choice because we sort of felt the older they get, the more we’re not going to want to pull them from their friends.”
More Celebrities Flee California
McKellar is one of many celebrities who has fled Los Angeles in search of a better life. Others include Mark Wahlberg, Scott Baio, and Sylvester Stallone.
Another celebrity who has left California in recent years is the former Superman star Dean Cain. He previously told Fox News that he still loves “California, the most beautiful state – everything’s wonderful about it except for the policies.” Cain now lives in Henderson, Nevada, and like the other stars who have fled California, he appears to have no regrets.
While California is a beautiful state, even many leftists would argue that some of their policies have gone too far. In the end, we can certainly see why McKellar and many of her fellow celebrities have left California in search of better lives elsewhere.
Here’s hoping that McKellar enjoys her life in Tennessee for man years to come!
