The legendary singer Cher was just left “speechless” after she was shocked to learn that her son Elijah Blue Allman fathered a 15 year-old daughter with the step-granddaughter of the iconic actress Julie Andrews.
Cher Learns She Has A Granddaughter
Kayti Edwards, the girl’s mother, told The Sun that she revealed this to Cher, 79, in an emotional phone call last year.
Kayti, who is a former model, had a brief romance with Elijah, 49, back in 2010. This led to her giving birth to their daughter Ever.
“Cher got in touch with me last June and asked if it was true, so I had to confess,” Kayti recalled. “She said she had heard something about it from Elijah back in 2021, but didn’t know if it was just crazy talk.”
“When she heard the news, she was speechless,” added Kayti, whose mother Jennifer is the daughter of filmmaker Blake Edwards. He was Julie’s husband from 1969 until his death in 2010.
Kayti, 49, went on to say that she had been friends with Elijah for many years before their brief romance.
“Elijah and I spent the night together and I fell pregnant,” Kayti recounted. “He always knew from day one, but he never wanted to be a parent. He would pop in every couple of years but would just say hello.”
“It wasn’t until 2021, when he overdosed on drugs, that he blurted out to his then-wife that he had a child,” she continued. “This is what started the rumours in the family. He then sent me a text message to say he wanted to make amends.”
Kayti is currently married to a man who she describes as being Ever’s “true father.”
“She has a father who has raised her from day one and that is her dad. I couldn’t ask for a better father for my kids,” Kayti explained.
Elijah’s Tumultuous History
Elijah, who is a guitarist, has a long history of drug addiction. In 2023, Cher filed for an emergency conservatorship for him. At the time, she explained that he was “substantially unable to manage his own financial resources due to severe mental health issues.” Cher and Elijah ultimately resolved this matter privately.
In June of last year, Elijah was rushed to the hospital after he overdosed for a second time. Earlier this week, Cher filed for a conservatorship for Elijah once again.
In court documents obtained by Fox News, Cher claimed that Elijah’s life has “significantly deteriorated” since she last asked for a conservatorship. She alleged that Elijah has “no concept of money” and almost exclusively spends funds on “drugs, expensive hotels, and limousine transportation.”
Elijah, whose father was the late musician Gregg Allman, is currently in custody at a “psychiatric hospital” in New Hampshire on multiple criminal charges stemming from arrests in February and March.
“He came back into my life just recently,” Kayti said. “I didn’t know anything about his state. But he asked me if he could come to Joshua Tree as he needed to get out of Hollywood.”
“As soon as he stepped out of the car, I knew he wasn’t well,” she lamented. “A few weeks later, he overdosed and was hospitalised, and this was when Cher got in touch. She wanted to know what had happened and then she asked me if it was true regarding Ever. That’s when I had to tell her the situation.”
Cher Always Wanted Granddchildren
Cher then invited both Kayti and Ever to her Malibu mansion in September of 2025.
“We went to the house and stayed the night,” Kayti said. “She was lovely and kind and we had dinner. Cher asked Ever if she wanted to see her closet and showed her a pair of jeans she had worn in concert. It was a cool experience for her. Cher was very childlike. They played in the pool and she spoke to Ever about school and asked her about boys. She was like a kid herself.”
Cher has always been open about her wish to have grandchildren.
“I don’t have any grandchildren,” Cher admitted in 2018. “I wish I did, I really do.”
Cher is now making an effort to be a good grandmother to Ever, who is a straight-A student.
“Cher sent her a Christmas card and present,” Kayti said. “It was a Chrome Hearts hoodie. And then for her birthday, she sent her some money and Chrome Hearts sweats. She called her and they spoke on the phone.”
“Cher is really trying,” Kayti concluded. “It’s an adjustment and I’m not pushing any relationship. It has to come naturally.”
Cher and Julie Andrews aren’t exactly two celebrities that one would think would have some kind of family connection. We can only imagine what Julie thinks about all of this!
