The comedic Hollywood legend Carol Burnett is currently promoting season two of her hit Apple TV+ series Palm Royale. This comes after a storied career in entertainment that has spanned over seven decades.
Sadly, it appears that Burnett’s career might soon be coming to an end. While she’s having a blast filming Palm Royale, the 92 year-old Burnett indicated in a new interview that retirement is very much on her mind these days.
Burnett’s ‘Last Hurrah’
Burnett confirmed to Extra that this will likely be her final acting role.
“Unless something just unbelievable comes up, I don’t feel that I can top being with Palm Royale.”
Indeed, Burnett went so far as to describe her experience working on this series as being her “last hurrah.”
“It started with Better Call Saul. When I did that, I thought ‘oh this is really great’, and I knew everybody, and I had a great time,” the former The Carol Burnett Show star explained.
“Then I got the call from Abe Sylvia to do this, and I said, ‘My goodness, that’s like a cherry on top of the sundae,'” she continued. “I don’t know what would come up that I would really want to do that could be as good as this.”
Burnett was joined for this interview by her Palm Royale co-stars Kristen Wiig and Ricky Martin. The two of them could not help but get choked up at hearing this from Burnett. Clearly, they’re just as upset as all of us are by the thought of Burnett no longer working in Hollywood!
Burnett ‘Couldn’t Be Happier’
As for Burnett, however, she made it very clear that she’s content with her decision. She also talked about what it’s like to still be working in her 90s.
“Oh, I’m like a kid in a candy store,” Burnett gushed. “You know, as I say, I don’t know for some reason, I think I am like a kid again, playing in the sandbox with some new best friends. I have new best friends now, which I didn’t have before this, I have some old best friends.”
“I couldn’t be happier,” Burnett concluded.

Will Burnett Really Retire?
While it’s sad to see that Burnett believes she may be retiring, those close to her are saying that fans shouldn’t count her out yet.
“Carol just loves being in show business – which is more pleasure than business to her,” a source close to Burnett told Radar Online earlier this year. “So she sees no reason to stop anytime soon.”
“Carol is like Michael Corleone in The Godfather – just when she thinks she’s out, they pull her back in,” this insider continued. “She always thinks she should retire, then an offer comes up, and she says, okay, just one more time – but that’s been going on for years. Carol is still having the time of her life.”
We can only hope that this source is correct, and that Burnett decides to keep working. As long as she’s having fun and is healthy, Burnett might as well keep making the world laugh. That being said, we will respect Burnett’s decision either way, as she also certainly deserves to enjoy retirement if that’s what she prefers.
The first two episodes of Palm Royale season two dropped on Apple TV+ last Wednesday. One episode of the show will air on the streaming service every Wednesday, with the finale set to drop on January 14. If you love Burnett as much as we do, be sure to check out this show.
God bless you, Carol Burnett!
