Candace Cameron Bure of Full House and Fuller House fame has long been known as one of the only openly devout Christian stars in Hollywood.

Candace is also one of the few celebrities who has actually enjoyed a decades-long marriage that has appeared to stand the test of time. Indeed, she’s been married to her former NHL star husband Valeri Bure since 1996. They have three children together, and they’ve been seen as “couples goals” for millions of fans for decades.

That’s why it came as a massive shock this week when Candace recently revealed that she and Valeri nearly split just a few years ago. It was ultimately one of their sons who saved their marriage with a powerful “45-minute sermon.”

Candace Admits Marriage Struggles

On the latest episode of The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast, Candace, 49, opened up about her marriage struggles with Valeri, 51. She also revealed the surprising role that their son Lev, 25, played in getting their marriage back on track.

“Val and I went through a really, really rough season in our marriage,” Candace admitted. She went on to say that this rough patch came in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It was going south quickly, and we were like, ‘I don’t know if, don’t think … we’re gonna make it through,” she recalled.

Candace’s Children Step In

Things got so bad that Lev and his two siblings Natasha, 26, and Maksim, 23, teamed up to confront their parents.

“Lev was the one leading the charge,” Candace recalled. “He came up to us, and he said, ‘We’d like to talk to you guys. And Val and I sat down, and Lev preached, like, a 45-minute sermon on marriage to us. Just had his Bible open on the couch and just talked about it.

“And I’ll never forget, ‘cause he said, ‘You know, I know I haven’t been married. I’m just a young kid. And so it’s probably hard to take marriage advice from someone this young [who] never experienced it before. But I don’t need to be married to know what the word of God says,'” she continued.

Candace remembered that Lev had “such a calm voice that had so much wisdom behind it.”

“And he looked us, you know, straight in the eye and individually asked me and then asked Val, you know, ‘Have you done everything you can? Is there one step of grace? Is there just some bit more grace you could give Val?'” she added.

‘It Really Changed For Us…’

After asking Candace this question, Lev turned to Val.

“‘And Val, is there any more grace you can give mom? Is there one more act of kindness, one more gesture, one more ounce of kindness goodness in you that you could give to try to reconcile?’” she recounted. “I mean, we walked away from that and, you know, Val and I were like, ‘Huh. We raised some pretty good kids.’”

“It was so in our face, but that was like the pivotal moment,” Candace explained. “It really changed for us after that talk, and there was a lot more to it. But you know it’s a whole different scenario when your kids sit you down to have a talk and go, ‘Are you being as mature as you can be and what God says?'”

Candace’s Marriage Recovers

Thankfully, this was enough to help Candace and Val start to get their marriage back on track. Candace was left “so grateful” to her children, adding that the trio was “so supportive of everything.”

“But I never thought there would be a day I’d listen to, like, an 18-year-old kid or a 20-year-old kid,” she confessed.

These days, Candace and Valeri appear to be doing better than ever. Last month, Candace celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary by posting a series of throwback photos to Instagram.

“Happy anniversary to my love and best friend forever,” Candace wrote in the caption.
