It’s been two and a half years since the legendary journalist Barbara Walters passed away, but she is still missed by millions to this day. Now, she’s been honored in the new documentary Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything, which is currently streaming on Hulu.

At one point in this documentary, it’s revealed that Walters once rejected the Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood when he asked her on a date decades ago.

Walters And Eastwood Get Flirty

Walters interviewed Eastwood at his California ranch back in 1982. At the time, she was 53 years-old, and he was 52. Indeed, it didn’t take long for things between them to take a flirtatious turn.

During the interview, Eastwood admitted that he keeps most of his feelings inside. He confessed doesn’t even share his feelings with his romantic partners.

“You would drive me nuts, and I would drive you crazy because I would be saying, ‘But didn’t you? Or haven’t you?’” Walters told the Dirty Harry star.

“Well, we could try it and see if it worked out,” Eastwood responded with a smile.

Both Walters and Eastwood then laughed awkwardly.

“We’ll start with this interview and if this is OK, we’ll say, ‘Well, maybe we’ll do another interview… and…” Walters said.

After a lengthy pause, Walters turned to the camera and said “I think we’ll stop and reload.” Everyone proceeded to burst out laughing!

“Barbara had her fill of romance,” gossip columnist Cindy Williams explained in the documentary. “She thought a lot of guys were sexy…she was interested in the possibility of sex. She liked it, she liked men.”

“[Walters] was never cynical about love, and she was definitely a romantic kind of person,” added makeup artist Lori Klein. “But romance just never worked in her life for long.”

Walters Turns Eastwood Down

Decades later, while being interviewed on The Tonight Show in 2014, Walters revealed that Eastwood asked her out after this interview. However, she decided to decline his invitation because of her work.

“This is a sad love story,” she told host Jimmy Fallon. “I did this interview with Clint Eastwood something like 30 years ago. He was very flirtatious, and I was very taken (with him). He asked me if I wanted to have dinner… and I said, ‘No, I have to work.’ You know, I don’t mix business with pleasure,” which she said she later regretted.”

“I could have been Mrs. Clint Eastwood!” she concluded.

Walters Passes Away – Eastwood Turns 95

Walters sadly died on December 30, 2022 at the age of 93. She had been battling dementia in the final years of her life. Meanwhile, Eastwood is still going strong. Indeed, he just celebrated his 95th birthday on May 31!

The chemistry that Walters and Eastwood had certainly was electric! Given how successful they each were in their respective fields, it’s not surprising that they seemingly had a lot in common.

In the end, Walters and Eastwood would likely have made quite a couple. It’s a shame that Walters said no to that date, because we sure would have loved to have seen her get to be Mrs. Clint Eastwood!
