Last week, we reported that the Hollywood star Jon Voight, who is the father of actress Angelina Jolie, was begging Brad Pitt to end the ongoing divorce drama with his daughter.
Now, it’s been revealed that Jolie is set to receive a major award in the wake of this plea.
Jolie Scores Major Honor
It’s just been announced that Jolie, 49, will receive the TIFF Tribute Award in Impact Media at this year’s Toronto Film Festival. She will receive the honor at the Canadian city’s Fairmont Royal York Hotel on Sunday, September 8, the same day as the world premiere of Jolie’s latest directorial film Without Blood.
The TIFF Tribute Award in Impact Media is typically given to those who bridge social impact and cinema.
“Angelina Jolie is a multifaceted talent who has entertained audiences for decades while consistently using her platform to champion important causes,” said TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey.
“This award recognizes her exceptional achievements in filmmaking, and her unwavering commitment for positive change, solidifying her status as a veritable humanitarian and global force to be reckoned with,” Bailey continued.
Jolie will be recognized at the 2024 TIFF gala alongside Amy Adams, Cate Blanchett, and David Cronenberg. Meanwhile, the Honorary Chair will be the Canadian actress Sandra Oh.
Voight’s Plea To Pitt
Jolie’s honor comes days after her father Jon Voight called on Brad Pitt to put an end to the divorce drama with his daughter. Jolie and Pitt have been embroiled in a nasty divorce battle ever since she filed in 2016. In the years since then, they’ve been fighting over custody of their six children: Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
Voight thinks it’s time for all of the drama to end so that everyone involved can move on. Though he admitted that he “doesn’t talk to his grandchildren as much as [he’d] like,” Voight still believes that it would be best for them if their parents could stop going at one another in court.
“I wish they’d find a way to make peace. You know, I think the kids need some stability,” Voight told Fox News. “I love the kids, and I love my daughter. And I want Brad to step up to do, you know, what he has to do. End this nonsense.”
Jolie and Pitt met on the set of their 2005 blockbuster spy film Mr. And Mrs. Smith. At the time, he was married to the former Friends actress Jennifer Aniston. Nevertheless, they fell in love, and quickly began a relationship.
Jolie and Pitt married in 2014. She then filed for divorce in 2016 after they allegedly got into a physical altercation on a private plane. Jolie and Pitt were each declared legally single in 2019. However, their battles with one another have continued in court in the years since then.
