The 2025 Oscar nominations came out on Thursday morning. Heading into this Oscars season, many were predicting that Angelina Jolie would win the Oscar for Best Actress for her work playing the legendary real life opera singer Maria Callas in the Netflix drama Maria.
That’s why it came as a massive shock when Jolie’s name was not even on the list of Oscar nominations this morning. Indeed, the ex-wife of Brad Pitt found herself being snubbed, with five other actresses being nominated in her place.
Let’s take a look at who will not be walking away with an Oscar this year.
Jolie Snubbed At Oscars
Jolie being snubbed was one of the biggest shocks of Oscar morning. This season, Jolie had been nominated for a Golden Globe, an Astra Film Award and a Critics’ Choice Movie Award. On top of that, she’d been honored at the 2024 Gotham Awards.
The five women nominated for the 2025 Best Actress Oscar are:
- Cynthia Erivo, Wicked
- Karla Sofía Gascón, Emilia Pérez
- Mikey Madison, Anora
- Demi Moore, The Substance
- Fernanda Torres, I’m Still Here
This snub hits Jolie at a difficult time, as she’s spent the past few months desperately trying to finalize her divorce from Pitt after battling it out in court with him for over eight years. The divorce was finally finalized at the end of last month. However, Jolie and Pitt are still locked in a bitter court battle over their French vineyard.
Jolie was likely looking at attending the Oscars and potentially winning as a much needed boost for her after a tough time. Unfortunately for Jolie, her movie Maria was only nominated for Best Cinematography.

More Best Actress Snubs
Of course, Jolie wasn’t the only star to be snubbed on Oscars morning. Pamela Anderson was also passed over for her work in Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl. Anderson had been nominated for Best Actress at the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAGs), but she was snubbed this morning along with Jolie.
Meanwhile, joining Jolie and Anderson on the list of Best Actress snubs is the A-list star Nicole Kidman. Many expected her to be nominated for her dramatic turn in the movie Babygirl.
Kidman had been nominated at the Golden Globes and she even won the International Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. Unfortunately for her, however, she simply came up short this morning.
Additional Acting Snubs
In the other acting categories, the biggest snubs were arguably Denzel Washington and Selena Gomez.
Washington is a two-time Oscar winner, and many expected him to be nominated for Best Supporting Actor this morning for Gladiator II. This season, Washington was nominated at the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards for his work in the Ridley Scott sequel. However, he found himself being snubbed by the Oscars this morning.

Finally, Gomez was passed over for Best Supporting Actress for her dramatic turn in Emilia Perez. She’d been nominated for a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, and a SAG Award for her work in the movie. On top of that, Gomez took home the Cannes Film Festival’s Best Actress award last year with her co-stars Karla Sofía Gascón and Zoe Saldana.
This made it seem to many like Gomez was a lock for an Oscar nomination. Indeed, both Gascón and Saldana made the list this morning in Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. Sadly for Gomez, however, it just wasn’t meant to be for her this time around.
It looks like Jolie, Anderson, Kidman, Washington, and Gomez will have to settle for watching the Oscars from home like the rest of us this year. Be sure to tune in on March 2 to see who the big winners will be!
