The two-time Oscar-winning Hollywood star Denzel Washington came unglued on Wednesday night as he appeared to lash out at fans asking for his autograph outside New York City’s Museum of Modern Art.

Washington Loses It On Fans

Washington was at the venue attending a film benefit honoring Samuel L. Jackson. At first, he appeared to be in good spirits as he paused to take some photos with fans. However, things took a turn as Washington was walking inside. Suddenly, he turned around and quickly approached a group of fans asking for autographs.

Video footage obtained by Fox News shows a visibly angry Washington demand, “Put this down. I heard you. You talk about showing love… respect me.”

“We always do,” one fan replied

“I said, ‘I’ll see you when I get out,'” Washington fired back. “Which part of that don’t ya’ll understand?”

“Or not, or not! We can do it another way. I can do it both ways, ya’ll,” Washington added before he walked inside.

It’s unclear what exactly led to this exchange happening. Check it out for yourself in the video below.

Social Media Users Respond

Many social media users took Washington’s side in the comments section.

“Leeches begging for signatures to sell. He knows whats up,” one fan commented. Another added, “I’m so glad he put them folks in their place that was training day.”

“They’re not fans,” a third person commented. “They looking for clout, trying to make some money, that’s all. True fans will say nothing, just stand quietly and admire the man for being a great actor.”

A fourth person wrote, “He very respectfully said I will see you on the way out and they got rowdy, and he reminded them, he doesn’t have to do them any favors at all.”

Washington’s History With Diddy

Washington has typically been known as a celebrity who keeps his cool. However, following the sex trafficking arrest of Sean “Diddy” Combs last month, it was revealed that Washington had once screamed at the music mogul after an all-night party back in 2003.

“Denzel screamed, ‘You don’t respect anyone,’” an insider told US Weekly.

“[Washington and his wife, Pauletta] had been partying until dawn [with Diddy], and they had seen something and stormed out,” the source continued.

It appears that Washington may have seen through Diddy before the rest of the world did. On September 16, Diddy was arrested and charged with  sex trafficking and racketeering. After pleading not guilty, he was denied bail and remanded to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York until his trial. If convicted, Diddy is facing a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of life in prison.

Washington’s Career

As for Washington, he remains one of the most acclaimed actors in Hollywood. He’s been nominated for seven Oscars, winning two. Washington first won Best Supporting Actor for the 1989 film Glory. He then won the Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar for 2001’s Training Day.

Washington’s most recent nomination came two years ago for The Tragedy of Macbeth, which he was the lead in.

While it’s surprising to see Washington lose his cool on fans, we can’t say we really blame him for this one. Hopefully autograph seekers think twice before messing with Washington again!
