Homeless people are being moved out of Edinburgh, Scotland, in an effort to make way for tourists who are heading to the city to attend Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

Shelter Scotland, an organization addressing the housing crisis, tells the BBC that “several” homeless individuals have been packed up into taxi cabs and shipped to Aberdeen and Glasgow.

Swift is scheduled to play in Edinburgh for three days in June.

But with a reported “shortage in accommodation,” those seeking temporary housing to address their current misfortunes are on the outs.

As in two hours out. The taxi rides to those cities are fairly lengthy.

The organization revealing the city’s actions calls it “a blatant injustice” for homeless people to be “in direct competition” with Swifties for hotel rooms.

Not Swift’s Fault That Homeless Are Being Displaced In Scotland

Gordon MacRae, the assistant director of Shelter Scotland, wants it known that pop star Taylor Swift has nothing to do with the situation at hand.

“It’s not Taylor Swift’s fault, it’s the council and the Scottish government that needs to do better,” he told Sky News.

MacRae also hints that this type of activity has happened with other major events.

The Edinburgh City Council notes that there aren’t homeless people being forced out of rooms they are already staying in.

Instead, new people are being turned away and “sent out of the city due to a severe shortage in accommodation caused by the concert.”

The Council added that they will work with affected households to find “appropriate, alternative accommodation.”

The Eras Tour

Swift’s Eras Tour has been a monumental success, becoming the first tour to surpass $1 billion in revenue and setting a new benchmark for global music tours.

The tour, which kicked off in March of 2023, had sold over 4.35 million tickets across 60 tour dates before the year was out.

That level of success underscores the tour’s significant economic influence, boosting local economies and businesses wherever it has taken place.

Swift’s net worth is estimated to be $1.3 billion.
