The singer Jewel is celebrating her 50th birthday on Thursday. To mark the occasion, she is offering her fans some powerful advice for getting over heartbreak and hardships.
This comes after rumors swirled that Jewel was dating Kevin Costner at the end of last year.
Jewel’s Advice For Heartbreak
Fox News reported that Jewel gave this advice during a ten-minute meditation experience called “The Portal.”
“The secret is, we don’t get to choose how life changes, only how it changes us,” she said
“The secret is all of our hearts are destined to be broken at some point, but it’s what we do with the pieces that make us extraordinary,” she added. “Make something beautiful of your broken things.”
Jewel knows a thing or two about heartbreak. She dated the rodeo star Ty Murray for nearly a decade before marrying him in 2008. She then gave birth to their son Kase Townes in 2011. Sadly, the couple split in 2014, saying that they still wanted to co-parent their son together amicably.
“It wasn’t easy in the beginning to be present,” Jewel later admitted. “Divorces … you have so much grief, and it’s hard. Not wanting to let go of that dream kept me in a marriage much longer than I probably should have.”

Jewel And Costner
At the end of last year, Jewel was spotted getting cozy with Costner, 69, while on a trip to Richard Branson’s Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. The images showed her seemingly sitting in Costner’s lap as she spoke into a microphone.
They were both in the Virgin Islands attending a tennis fundraiser for the Inspiring Children Foundation, a mental health and wellness organization that was founded by Jewel.
“@kevincostnermodernwest was kind enough to mentor our kids this year, and Sir Richard was his usual inspiring self- who also plays a mean game of doubles!” Jewel wrote on Instagram at the time.
Sources close to the situation said that the relationship between Jewel and Costner was “fresh but not brand new.”
“There is very big attraction on both sides,” one insider said. “Jewel likes Kevin’s type, and Kevin likes to be in a relationship, so this is cool. He is having fun after his contentious divorce. He is glad that is over.”
This was months after Costner divorced his wife Christine Baumgartner, who he was married to for 18 years.

Jewel Is ‘Just Happy’
Jewel herself opened up about her love life earlier this month.
“I found love, and I’m not talking about Kevin’s. I’m so happy, irrelevant of a man,” she told People Magazine. “It has nothing to do with being in a relationship or not being in one. I’m just happy.”
“I’m more inspired now than I’ve ever been in my life, the most since I was like 19 or 20 years old,” she added.
Jewel is clearly a wise woman who knows quite a bit about life. Regardless of what is going on with her romantically, it’s nice to see her so happy!
