Jon Bon Jovi Leaves It ‘Up To God’ If He’ll Perform Again After Major Vocal Cord Surgery

The singer Jon Bon Jovi is leaving his health “up to God” two years after he underwent intense vocal surgery that he is still recovering from to this day.

‘It’s Up To God To Fix It’

While promoting his new docuseries “Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story,” which drops on Hulu on Friday, Bon Jovi admitted that recovering from this surgery has been difficult for him.

“It sucks,” Bon Jovi, 62, told Fox News. “But, if I put it into comparison to athletes, and when Kobe and the achilles, or Michael Strahan and the pec, Tom Brady with the knee, Tiger Woods preparing for yet another Masters. It doesn’t get any easier for any of those guys.”

“And I know their work ethic and mine are very similar,” he continued. “No one anticipates injury like that. And it’s up to God to fix it or not, but I’m certainly right next to the Lord himself working on it.”

Bon Jovi May Not Perform Again

Bon Jovi was forced to pause his music career in 2022, when he underwent throat surgery after suffering an atrophied vocal cord. He hasn’t toured since then, and he’s been open about the fact that he may not be able to perform again.

“If the singing is not great, if I can’t be the guy I once was… then I’m done,” he told The Sunday Times last week. “And I’m good with that.”

Bon Jovi went on to explain that there is a “big difference between being in a studio and going out on the road,” according to NME.

“We have just recorded a new album. I sing in vocal therapy every day,” he revealed. “But I want to perform for two and a half hours a night, four nights a week – and I know how good I can be, so if I can’t be that guy … put it this way, I don’t ever need to be the fat Elvis.”

Bon Jovi’s New Album

Bon Jovi’s 16th studio album “Forever” is set to come out on June 7, and the band has described it as a “return to joy.” Bon Jovi himself has said that he had to “work through a lot of dark misery” to arrive at the joy.

“What comes through is joy.” he told News 10. “My goal with this record was to capture joy which for these last few years has been difficult, whether it’s the dark cloud of COVID that the world experienced or my own personal journey. With this record, I think we captured joy.”

Though his performing future is in God’s hands, Bon Jovi is still putting in the work hoping that his vocal cords will heal enough for him to tour again.

“The process has been steady,” he said. “Would I like it to be a light switch? Yeah. I said to the doctor, ‘I want to flip the switch and be done with this.’ It’s just not how it works. Like an athlete coming back from an ACL tear or whatever, it just takes time. The therapy is still intensive and yet I’m confident that it gets progressively better.”

Bon Jovi is one of the most talented performers alive today, so it’s heartbreaking to learn that he may not tour again. It can only be hoped that God answers his prayers and heals his vocal cords enough so that Bon Jovi can get back to doing what he loves, which is performing!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
