Last week, we reported that the “Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner’s wife Christine Baumgartner, who he’s been married to for eighteen years, had “blindsided” him by filing for divorce. Now, sources close to Costner are saying that he is desperately “trying to get” her back.

Costner ‘Is Trying To Get Her Back’

Daily Mail reported that Costner, 68, was shocked by Baumgartner, 49, filing for divorce.

“Everyone thought Kevin and his wife were super happy so it’s all surprising,” a source told US Weekly. “He truly loves her and is trying to get her back. He’s been blindsided by this.”

Costner and Baumgartner married in 2004, and they are parents to sons Cayden, 16, and Hayes, 14, and daughter Grace, 12. She cited “irreconcilable differences” when she filed for divorce on May 1.

“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” Costner’s rep said in response. “We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”

Costner’s Work Schedule

A family source later claimed to People Magazine that while Costner “knew” Baumgartner was “unhappy,” her divorce filing came as an “unpleasant surprise.”

“Christine wants them to spend family time at their Santa Barbara home,” the source explained. “During filming, Kevin is not around very much. His absence has been very hard for her.”

“Christine doesn’t want him to throw himself into another project. He has been obsessed with filming ‘Horizon’ since last year,” the insider added. “She wasn’t happy about it.”

Costner is reportedly currently in Utah filming his Western saga “Horizon.” Another source in the entertainment world said that “at times, his career has taken precedence over his home life.”

“Kevin hasn’t been home very much for quite some time due to filming, the popularity of ‘Yellowstone,’ and the time necessary for his other projects,” the entertainment source stated. “He has been in demand.”

“All of this success and excitement over the new project probably took his attention away from his family more than he realized,” this source continued. “Since it didn’t look like that would change and likely could get worse, it caused tension at home.”

Costner was previously married to Cindy Silva from 1978 to 1994 and they share three children: Annie, 39, Lily, 36, and Joe, 35. Costner’s marriage to Silva ended amidst accusations that he’d cheated on her with a hula dancer while filming his movie Waterworld.

‘Yellowstone’ Ending

Costner is also father to son Liam Costner with Bridget Rooney, who he dated after divorcing Silva.

Days after Baumgartner filed for divorce, Daily Mail reported that the end of “Yellowstone” was announced by Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios.

“‘Yellowstone’ has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits — from ‘1883’ to ‘Tulsa King,’ and I am confident our sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan [the show’s creator] and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life,” McCarthy said.

This is clearly a very difficult time for Costner and his entire family. If Costner and Baumgartner are really meant to be, we hope for their sakes that they can find a way to reconcile!
