Kevin Costner Blindsided By Wife Filing For Divorce – He’s ‘Stunned’

Yesterday, we reported that Kevin Costner’s wife Christine Baumgartner, who he’d been married to for 18 years, had filed for divorce. Now, sources close to Costner are saying that the “Yellowstone” star was blindsided by her filing.

Costner ‘Stunned’ By Divorce Filing

One source told Page Six that Costner, 68, was left “stunned” when he learned of his wife’s divorce filing.

“Kevin was very surprised by Christine’s actions, he obviously doesn’t want the divorce and he would take her back,” the insider said. “It’s disappointing, he loves her and he loves his children.”

Costner and Baumgartner, 49, are parents to Cayden, 15, Hayes, 14, and daughter Grace, 12. The source went on to shoot down rumors that Costner had cheated on Baumgartner.

“There was no issue of cheating at all,” the insider added.

When asked why Baumgartner filed for divorce, the longtime friend of Costner’s replied, “I have no idea if Kevin even knows what the reasons are.”

‘Yellowstone’ Production Source Speaks Out 

A production source on “Yellowstone” expressed shock over the divorce filing as well.

“No-one knew about any issues,” this insider said. “He was not ‘sequestered’ on the set and would often go home to visit his family.”

Given the fact that Costner had to spend many months shooting “Yellowstone” on location, it would make sense if it put a stress on his marriage.

“The temptations are pretty strong and there’s a hungry world out there waiting for you to fall,” Costner once said. “So you can’t even dabble without paying a huge price. I try to conduct my life with a certain amount of dignity and discretion but marriage is a hard, hard gig.”

Baumgartner cited “irreconcilable differences” when she filed for divorce on Monday. She did not ask for spousal support, indicating that there is a prenuptial agreement in place regarding Costner’s estimated $250 million fortune.

“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” Costner’s representative said in a statement. “We ask that his, Christine’s and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”

Costner Busy ‘Shooting Right Now’

Costner is currently in St. George, Utah filming his upcoming Western movie series Horizon, an American Saga, which he wrote and is directing.

“He’s shooting right now and it’s all very upsetting, you don’t expect your wife to file for divorce when you least expect it,” a friend of his said.

Costner and Baumgartner began dating in 2000, and they married in 2004 on a ranch in Aspen, Colorado. He was previously married to Cindy Silva from 1978 to 1994 and they share three children: Annie, 39, Lily, 36, and Joe, 35. Costner’s marriage to Silva ended amidst accusations that he’d cheated on her with a hula dancer while filming his movie Waterworld.

Costner is also father to son Liam Costner with Bridget Rooney, who he dated after divorcing Silva.

This also comes amidst rumors that Costner will not be returning to “Yellowstone” to film the rest of the fifth season. A friend of his said that given everything that has happened,  “it’s been a tough year” for the Dances With Wolves star.
