Mark Wahlberg Bags Groceries At Store Where He Worked As A Teen

The Hollywood A-list star Mark Wahlberg has come a long way since his days bagging groceries as a teenager at the Stop & Shop grocery store in Quincy, Massachusetts. This week, he showed that he’s never forgotten where he came from by returning to the store to bag some groceries once again!

Wahlberg Returns To Stop & Shop

Boston 25 News reported that Wahlberg, 51, documented his return to the store where he once worked in a video posted to his Instagram page on Tuesday.

“Right here, this is where the whole hustle started,” Wahlberg said as he stood in the parking lot of the store.

“I was bagging groceries, $3.65 an hour, while I was right up the street getting my driver’s ed,” he continued. “Same day I turned 17, I got my driver’s license, I bought a Pontiac (expletive) for $200 from Lappen’s Auto Parts. We’re going to see if I can get my job… if I can get my job back.”

“Remember, it started right here at Stop & Shop,” he added as he pointed to the supermarket.

Wahlberg then walked inside the store to meet some of the customers.

“It’s bagging groceries time. I’m getting my job back,” he told the customers at the checkout as he bagged their groceries. “The oranges are a little heavy for the paper. You want double or single?”

“Get out of here!” one female employee said when she saw Wahlberg, with another adding, “Doing some serious good in this world, this young man.”

“I’m telling Jeff to get me my job back,” Wahlberg joked with the employees.

Raymond Li was grabbing his morning coffee at the Stop & Shop when he bumped into Wahlberg, much to his surprise!

“I looked around the corner and I was like there’s no way I am looking at Mark Wahlberg bagging somebody’s groceries,” Li told WHDH. “Everybody was super excited, they have staff there who were jumping out of their registers trying to go up to him to get a picture.”

“He was a very nice and down-to-earth guy,” he added.

Wahlberg Never Forgot His Roots

Since his days working at Stop & Shop, Wahlberg has become a multi-million dollar Hollywood A-list star. Despite all his success in the entertainment world, however, he’s never forgotten where he came from.

“It filled me with such pride to call myself a Bostonian. I kind of beat my chest for reasons other than what Larry Bird did, or the Patriots do. This love and strength is so powerful, and knowing that we can still come out after a horrible event and radiate this love is special for me,” he told People Magazine in 2016, referring to the Boston Marathon bombing that happened three years before.

Wahlberg grew up in the Dorchester area of Boston as the youngest of nine children, and he was devastated in 2021 when he lost his mother Alma after a battle with dementia.

“She was an amazing person,” Wahlberg told EXTRA after her death. “She taught us all through all the difficulties that we had and face… She was very proud that we turned our lives around.”

Hollywood success is something that can go to someone’s head very quickly, and celebrities are typically quick to forget where they came from. God bless Wahlberg for going the opposite direction, and for returning to the Stop & Shop where it all began for him!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
