Whoopi Goldberg had a surprising meltdown on “The View” on Monday morning while discussing a news anchor being fired for saying something that was deemed to be racially insensitive on the air.

Instead of going the woke route and burying the anchor, Goldberg took her side and made the point that rules about language have gone too far in today’s America.

Goldberg Defends News Anchor

Decider reported that Mississippi news anchor Barbie Bassett was fired last week after quoting a Snoop Dogg lyric on live television. Check out that moment for yourself in the above video.

As someone who’s said racially insensitive things on television on various occasions, Goldberg declined to slam Bennett.

“People have to understand that sometimes, stuff comes out of folk’s mouths, and you might want to start with, ‘Hey, maybe that wasn’t the smartest thing to say.’ As opposed to, ‘You’re out.’ That’s just me, having been in the situation before,” Goldberg said.

Goldberg Doubles Down

Goldberg later doubled down by saying that firing anchors for saying the wrong thing is not the answer before lamenting that network executives “never let you” come back on air to explain. She ended the segment with an increasingly heated rant about what can and can’t be said on television.

“There are too many things— y’all need to make a book of stuff that no one can say. There has to be a book of stuff that nobody can ever say,” she said. “Ever, ever, ever. Include everything!”

“Because I’ll tell you, the things that change: you can say this, but you can’t say that,” Goldberg continued. “Next week you might not be able to say this. It’s hard to keep up … and if you’re a person of a certain age, there’s stuff we do and we say. You know what I’m sayin’!”

“We have no idea until somebody says, ‘Oh, by the way.’ You should know that just because we’re on television doesn’t mean we know everything,” she concluded. “We don’t know everything you’re not supposed to do. Saying, ‘You’re out,’ means you don’t want to hear what people have to say or the mistakes that they might have made that could help somebody else not make that mistake.”

Goldberg Forced To Apologize

This comes weeks after Goldberg was forced to apologize after she used the word “gy**ed” on live TV during a segment on “The View” about the former President Donald Trump’s hush money case. This word has been deemed to be racially insensitive to the Romani people in recent years.

“You know, when you’re a certain age, you use words that you know from when you’re a kid or you remember saying, and that’s what I did today, and I shouldn’t have,” Goldberg said in her apology.

“I should have thought about it a little longer before I said it, but I didn’t, and I should have said ‘cheated,’ and I used another word, and I’m really, really sorry,” she added.

Though Goldberg typically takes the side of the woke left, we’re glad to see that even she can see that she’s the last person who should be commenting on anyone else saying something racially insensitive. This shows a kind of self-awareness that we rarely get to see from Goldberg. Here’s hoping that this is the beginning of her turning over a new leaf!
