The country music legend Dolly Parton has tons of rollercoaster rides at her Dollywood amusement park, but you won’t ever catch her riding them. In a new interview, the 77 year-old “Jolene” singer revealed why she makes a point of never riding her own rollercoasters.

Parton Doesn’t Ride Rollercoasters

While unveiling the Big Bear Mountain coaster at Dollywood last Friday, Parton said, “Well does that look like fun or not? I think that is really gonna be something really great.”

“Now you all know as well as you know my name that I am not gonna be riding that thing!” she then clarified, according to Pure Wow. “Because I don’t ride the rides, I don’t want my hair to fly off right on national television or something! But I know that all of you will be fighting to get on it and I’ll be standing watching you get in line!”

Parton previously opened up to the New York Times in 2019 about not riding her own rollercoasters.

“I have a tendency to get motion sickness. Also, I’m a little bit chicken. With all my hair I got so much to lose, like my wig or my shoes. I don’t like to get messed up,” she explained. “I’m gonna have some handsome man mess it up, I don’t want some ride doing it.”

Parton Kicks Off Dollywood Season

Parton’s latest comments came as she kicked off the 2023-2024 Dollywood season, according to Attractions Magazine

“I think everyone knows that I try to dream big dreams no matter what I’m doing,” Parton said. “With everything happening at my Dollywood this year, this may be some of my biggest dreaming yet! We’re going to open a BIG ride and a BIG resort, even the calendar got bigger this year!”

Parton then performed her hit song “I Will Always Love You.”

“They’re starting the year with the ‘I Will Always Love You’ Celebration, which is something that is very humbling to me,” she continued. “The song has been a very special part of my life and career, but I never thought about them celebrating it at Dollywood.”

“I told them they didn’t need to do it, but when they explained it would be a celebration of songwriting and the talents of songwriters, I knew it would be something truly special,” Parton stated.

Parton’s Wigs

Parton has long been open about the fact that she wears wigs.

“I don’t always wear [wigs] in my daily life, but I always still pouf up my hair. I still like to have that flashy hair,” Parton previously said.

“When I’m around home, I wear my little scrunchies, but I always put on some makeup and fix my own hair as cute as I can fix it,” she added. “Wigs are just so handy. I’m so busy, and I have so many choices. I never have a bad hair day, and that’s a good thing.”

Parton is a true living legend, and there will never be another one like her. We can certainly understand why she’s decided that while the rest of us can enjoy her rollercoasters, she won’t be riding them anytime soon!
