The woke former NFL star Colin Kaepernick is publicly attacking his white adoptive parents, accusing them of being “problematic” when it came to his race when he was growing up.

Kaepernick Attacks His Parents

Daily Mail reported that Kaeopernick, 35, was an infant when he was adopted by Rick and Teresa Kaepernick, a white couple who lost two biological sons to congenital heart defects. In a new interview, Kaepernick said that while he knew that his parents “loved him,” there were also “very problematic things” that he “went through” with them.

While promoting his new graphic comic memoir in an interview with CBS News, Kaepernick recalled his mother telling him that cornrows did not look professional, alleging that she told him that he “looked like a little thug” when he got the hairstyle.

“I know my parents loved me. But there were still very problematic things that I went through,” he said. “I think it was important to show that, no, this can happen in your own home, and how we move forward collectively while addressing the racism that is being perpetuated.”

Kaepernick claimed that the interactions with his parents are what led to him becoming a social justice activist.

“Those become spaces where it’s like, ‘Okay, how do I navigate the situation now?’ But it also has informed why I have my hair long today,” he said.

Kaepernick’s Parents Gush Over Him

Kaepernick’s parents have previously gushed over how happy they were to bring him home after he was adopted by them.

“It all went really smoothly,” Kaepernick’s father once said. “I know it’s not usually that smooth with adoptions, but it was. Colin never had any adoption issues at all. The only difference is his skin is a little bit browner than ours.”

“I’ll never forget that day,” his mother added. “They brought him in an infant carrier and set him down. The birth mother was there. I looked at her and she nodded and I just picked him up out of the carrier. The minute I picked him up, I just cried. We gave her a big hug. And she needed a couple more minutes. And then we left.”

Kaepernick’s History

Kaepernick is best known for taking a knee during the national anthem before his games as a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. Though he claimed that he was doing this to protest against racial inequality in America, many saw this as a clear sign of disrespect to the American flag and those who have fought and died for it.

Though Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since he was dropped by the 49ers in 2017, he is still hoping to make his comeback to professional football.

“Five, six days a week I’m still up at 4:30, I go get my training in,” Kaepernick said in his latest interview. “Yeah, that passion is still there and the ability is still there.”

Given the fact that it’s been so many years since he played in the NFL, however, a comeback for Kaepernick seems unlikely at this point.

We can only imagine the pain that Kaepernick’s parents are going through in the wake of him hurling such a brutal accusation at them in public. While he’s shown over the past few years that he truly has no shame, this really is a new low for Kaepernick.
