Tom Brady retired from the NFL for a second time last week one year to the day after he previously called it quits, only to change his mind a few weeks later and play another season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Sources are now saying that despite the fact that they divorced back in October, Brady and his supermodel ex-wife Gisele Bündchen “talked” about his latest decision before he officially announced his retirement.

Tom And Gisele ‘Talked This Through’

“Tom and Gisele are on cordial terms,” an insider told US Weekly, adding that the former couple “talked this through before he came to the final decision.”

The source went on to say that Gisele has been “a real rock” for Tom throughout this difficult time in his life. Tom is “so grateful to everyone in his life for the support they’ve shown,” according to the insider, who pointed out that Tom’s retirement video a laid out what a “blessing” his career had been for him.

“He couldn’t have achieved a fraction of his success without his family, friends and supporters,” the source said.

Tom Retires

This came after Brady announced his retirement in a brief video that was posted to his social media pages.

“I’m retiring — for good. I know the process was a pretty big deal last time,” the former NFL quarterback said in the video. “So, when I woke up this morning, I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first. So, I won’t be long-winded. You only get one super emotional retirement essay and I used mine up last year.”

“My family, my friends, my teammates, my competitors,” he continued. “I could go over forever, there’s too many. Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change a thing. Love you all.”

Gisele voiced her support in the comments section of his post, writing, “Wishing you only wonderful things in this new chapter of your life. ??.”

Tom’s decision to un-retire was long rumored to be a major cause of friction in his marriage to Gisele prior to their split.

“Gisele was not happy when Tom un-retired from the NFL after such a short time,” a source said in September. “Tom is doing everything he can to make it up to her, they’re working through things and trying to come out the other side.”

‘I’ve Done My Part’

Tom and Gisele would go on to divorce just one month later. Days before her divorce, Gisele revealed that she’d had “conversations with him over and over again” about Tom continuing to play at his age.

“I’ve done my part, which is [to] be there for [Tom],” she told Elle Magazine at the time. “I moved to Boston, and I focused on creating a cocoon and a loving environment for my children to grow up in and to be there supporting him and his dreams.”

“Seeing my children succeed and become the beautiful little humans that they are, seeing him succeed and being fulfilled in his career — it makes me happy,” she continued. “At this point in my life, I feel like I’ve done a good job on that. I have a huge list of things that I have to do, that I want to do. At 42, I feel more connected with my purpose.”

Tom and Gisele were married for thirteen years, and they share two children together. The fact that he is still consulting her about his career moves indicates that they are getting along well and are likely co-parenting together effectively, and you can’t ask for a better kind of split than that!
