The legendary star Olivia Newton-John passed away last August at the age of 73 following a thirty year battle with breast cancer. Her daughter Chloe Lattanzi is now speaking out to reveal what her mother’s final words were.

Newton-John’s Final Words

Lattanzi told the “Today” show that her mother kept her hilarious sense of humor right up to the end.

“The last words she could say to me was, ‘My sunshine,” Lattanzi said. “And right before she lost her ability to speak, she was making jokes.”

Lattanzi, who was Newton-John’s only child, went on to talk about how special her mother was to her.

“I love my mom more than anything,” she said as she became emotional. “She’s my mama, you know? She’s not Olivia Newton-John to me, but I’m so glad that she was Olivia Newton-John for so many people.”

Lattanzi also discusses how important the support from her mother’s fans has been in the months since her death.

“It actually has been a life raft. It has felt like a big hug from the universe,” she said. “And I’m very grateful for all of the people who reached out to us and extended their heart and their connection.”

Newton-John’s Widower Speaks Out

Newton-John’s widower John Easterling, who had been married to the former Grease star since 2008, told “Today” that he feels grateful to have had as much time with her as he did.

“Every day, I miss Olivia terribly,” he said. “And yet every day I’m really super grateful that I had 15 wonderful years with this extraordinary human being.”

“She had the willpower, even in her most difficult times, to really bring in the light and to bring in the love,” he added. “And she was who she was all the way through.”

Easterling concluded by telling fans how they can honor Newton-John.

“A guy I was flying with said, ‘You know, John, when you’re lucky enough to have found your true soulmate, and you share a heart, when one passes, the other has the obligation to live life for both,’” he said. “And that was very empowering and very powerful for me, and gave a way forward.”

Newton-John’s Duet With Parton

Before her death, Newton-John recorded a duet of the song “Jolene” with the country music star Dolly Parton, and this duet was released on Friday morning. You can check that out for yourself in the video below.

Parton and Newton-John had been friends ever since the latter won 1974’s Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year award.

“My first memory of Olivia was when her song ‘Let Me Be There’ was a hit. I have loved her ever since,” Parton told Broadway World. “We had many occasions that we got to share together, either backstage or performing on the same shows, and I loved every moment that I ever got to spend with her. I’ve always been inspired by her grit, tenderness, willingness, and determination.”

“My last memory of Olivia was when I sang with her on my song ‘Jolene’ which she recorded for an album not so very long ago. I cannot wait to hear that album and Olivia may you rest in peace,” she added. “You left a spot that one else will ever fill.”
