Whoopi Goldberg Stoops To Begging Maggie Smith, 88, To Be In ‘Sister Act 3’ – ‘I’m Holding The Part Of Mother Superior For You’
Whoopi Goldberg is so desperate to get Maggie Smith to sign on for "Sister Act 3" that she has resorted to begging her.
Whoopi Goldberg is preparing to star in a third Sister Act movie 31 years after the beloved original movie was released. With production set to begin this year, Goldberg has resorted to begging Maggie Smith to sign on to reprise her role of Mother Superior.

Goldberg Begs Smith
“You know, one of the things that I want to make sure I do while I’m here is… I want to let Maggie Smith know that I’m holding the part of Mother Superior for you [Maggie],” Goldberg said in a new interview in the United Kingdom, according to Daily Mail. “Because I just can’t do it with anybody but you.”
“So if you need me to come over here [to England] and shoot and do whatever we have to do, we will do whatever you want us to do, but we don’t want to do it without you,” the 67 year-old Oscar-winner continued.
“I’m liking the script, you know we’re all going to do whatever we have to do,” Goldberg concluded. “I’m trying to secure a director!”

Goldberg’s Previous Plea To Smith
Goldberg made a similar public plea to Smith in another interview last month.
“Maggie Smith. We have this new script. If you will do it, I want you to please do it. I’m not thinking of coming over there, I will come over there,” she said at the time. “I will shoot whatever you want if you say yes. I love you.”
“If you’re watching, email the show, we can pass on the message,” said talk show host Alex Jones, with Goldberg adding, “She’s got my email! She knows what to do!”

While the exact reason that Smith seems to be reluctant to sign on for this project is unknown, Goldberg’s comments suggest that it could be something to do with not wanting to fly across the pond to shoot it in the United States.
Disney + green lit the third Sister Act movie back in 2020, and at the time, Goldberg said that she agreed to the reboot because “everybody else is doing it.”
“Everyone seems to be able to do it and I thought those nuns deserve to have another go around and have some fun,” she added, according to Metro U.K. “We’re writing a script.”
Goldberg also said that she was “diligently” working on trying to “get the gang back together,” with Smith of course being part of this gang.

Goldberg’s Holocaust Controversy
While Smith has yet to make any kind of public about Sister Act 3, we wouldn’t blame her if she didn’t want to work with Goldberg again over the American star’s recent offensive comments that she made saying that the Holocaust “wasn’t originally” about race.
“Remember who they were killing first,” she said last month. “They were not killing racial; they were killing physical. They were killing people they considered to be mentally defective. And then they made this decision.”

Backstory: Whoopi Goldberg Doubles Down On Claim That Holocaust Wasn’t About Race
Though Goldberg has since backtracked and apologized, many feel that this is not enough and believe that ABC should fire her from “The View” for anti-semitism.
Goldberg’s Holocaust comments may have nothing to do with Smith’s reluctance to star in another movie with her. If we were Smith, however, we certainly would not find working with Goldberg and all the drama that inevitably follows her to be very appealing.
