After many years in and around the business, Tony Schiavone admits things are winding down for him. Plus, after working his final singles bout, Great Muta taints the big match.

Tony Schiavone Winding Down

He’s been a significant figure in pro wrestling for quite a long time, but Tony Schiavone recently admitted that his career is winding down.

Speaking on the “What Happened When” podcast, Schiavone took the chance to reflect on his lengthy career.

Acknowledging that he has had a nice long run, spanning WCW and TNA and now AEW, Tony Schiavone noted that his career is winding down.

He was not so quick to give himself an end date, but he knows his time is winding down.

Schiavone noted that he turned 65 just before the end of 2022. Recalling how he felt on the morning of his birthday, he noted that he just felt tired.

And, more to the point, he remains tired.

What’s more, Schiavone remarked that he’s come to terms with the idea that wrestling is a young man’s business.

While he may be wrapping up things, he still does remain involved.

That means that perhaps he doesn’t need to do as much in front of the camera in order to be impactful.

He is plenty involved in the day to day, behind the scenes work in AEW, which suits him just fine.

Great Muta Taints Big Match

It was a huge deal when we learned WWE was going to let Shinsuke Nakamura do it, but the Great Muta taints their big match with comments afterwards.

To recap just a wee bit…

Under the prior regime, Shinsuke Nakamura was not allowed to work a big match overseas. In fact, basically no one was.

In Nakamura’s case, the match was a literal dream match-the final singles match for The Great Muta.

Once the leadership changed, Nakamura asked again. This time, Triple H was all for it, and Nakamura himself announced his New Years match against Muta.

The match just took place, and the WWE Superstar was victorious.

That could be noteworthy enough, but it was what Great Muta said afterwards that taints the big match.

For a little context, if you did not know, Muta has been famous for spewing his green mist.

Shinsuke took a rather unorthodox approach to make sure he would not be on the receiving end of it.

Specifically, Nakamura effectively kissed Muta, sucking the green mist from his opponent’s mouth and using it against him.

Interesting and notable, but it was what Muta said afterwards that taints things, and you can figure why.

Fans called out Pro Wrestling NOAH for their typed up summary, noting that they glossed over the worst.

Specifically, Muta used some insensitive slurs to characterize what Shinsuke did during the match.

Now, while he might be serious or he might be joking, there are comments you just can’t make…and Muta just made a few.
