Tim Allen Reveals Why He Doesn’t Want To Be Like Tom Brady

Tim Allen may be turning 70 later this year, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to retire anytime soon!

Allen Doesn’t Want To Pull A Tom Brady

In his Disney+ miniseries “The Santa Clauses,” which was recently renewed for a second season, Allen’s character of Kris Kringle (aka Scott Calvin) retires to spend more time with his family, only to later un-retire and return to work. This was much like what the NFL star Tom Brady did a year ago, when he announced his retirement from football to the world, only to un-retire weeks later and play another season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In a recent interview, Allen humorously said that he has no intention of doing something similar to what his character and Brady did.

“I don’t want to be a [Tom] Brady about it because I retired from ‘Home Improvement’ under a lot of stress because they had offered me quite an offer to come back and do a ninth and 10th season of ‘Home Improvement,’” Allen, 69, explained to US Weekly.

“[Wayne] Gretzky was retiring, the hockey player,” he added. “A couple quarterbacks were retiring that year. I was just watching sports. I love sports and they all left at the top of their game and that was an interesting thing.”

‘I Love What I Do’

Allen has had a successful Hollywood career since the 1980s, starring in hit movies like The Santa Clause films and the Toy Story franchise, as well as successful sitcoms like “Home Improvement” and “Last Man Standing.

“I love what I do. I don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t do this,” Allen continued. “To me, I’ve got a bunch of buddies that like to fish. Not a big fisherman. I can’t sit around. Golf is more of — I worked harder at golf than I’ve ever worked in any job. It’s so much stress.[Jay] Leno and I both agree. I love it. I love what I do. It’s not [work] at all [to me]. So this is what I’d like to do.”

“If I’d retire like Leno [would say], ‘Retire for what? What are you gonna do? You sit around and wait to die,'” he concluded.

Allen and Leno, 72, have been friends for decades going all the way back to their days coming up together as young comedians. Like Allen, Leno still loves performing, and he even does standup comedy every Sunday at his local comedy club.

Allen Loved Making ‘The Santa Clauses’

The success of “The Santa Clauses” shows that Allen is still at the top of his game, and he’s been open about how much fun he had making this show. In an interview with Press And Guide, Allen described playing Santa again as an “arduous and magical” experience.

“The reward alone was when we saw the premiere. All of us were like, ‘Damn!’” he said. “It was put together so well, I have nothing but respect for everyone involved.”

As for Brady, his season with the Buccaneers came to an end on Monday night, and he has yet to reveal whether he plans to play another season in the NFL, or to actually retire for good this time. It would certainly be fun if Brady takes a page out of Allen’s book, and defiantly decides that he won’t be retiring anytime soon!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
