Henry Winkler Reveals If He’d Ever Come Back For A ‘Happy Days’ Reboot

The legendary actor Henry Winkler is speaking out this week to reveal if he’d be willing to reprise his iconic role of “The Fonz” if the beloved sitcom “Happy Days” was ever rebooted.

Winkler Talks Potential ‘Happy Days’ Reboot

“I wouldn’t want to do it without Ron [Howard], without Don [Most], without Anson [Williams] and without Marion {Ross],” Winkler, 77, told Fox News as he walked the red carpet at the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday night.

Winkler went on to say that he would also be reluctant to do a reboot of “Happy Days” without the late Garry Marshall, who created and produced the sitcom. Marshall sadly passed away back in 2016 at the age of 81, much to the sadness of “Happy Days” fans.

When asked if there is any possibility of a “Happy Days” reunion, Winkler replied, “That’s a good question. I don’t know. I have no idea.”

In the decades since “Happy Days” went off the air, Winkler has had a hugely successful Hollywood career that has seen him work with countless A-list stars. However, there are still a few more actors that Winkler is eager to work with who he has not gotten the chance to collaborate with yet, with one of them being Jeff Bridges.

“How magnificent is he in ‘[The] Old Man?’ Oh my god!” Winkler exclaimed. “Julia Garner from ‘Ozark.’ Oh my god. And it goes on and on, I get so excited to see everybody.”

Winkler Grateful For Hollywood Success

Winkler ended up taking home the Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on the show “Barry.” Before winning the award, he said that he was just happy “to celebrate the enormous talent in that room.”

“I have things in the fire, but if they are not real, I never talk about them,” he said of his future plans. “If they are not like, ‘Oh we’re doing it.’ But I’m very excited.”

In another interview on Sunday, Winkler opened up about how grateful he is to still be performing 50 years after he was cast as The Fonz.

“I came out here … this is the truth. Two weeks later, I auditioned at Paramount Studios,” Winkler said of his “Happy Days” audition, according to People Magazine. “I walked in the room. I don’t know where it came from. I just changed my voice. I just went over it. ‘Don’t look at me like that.'”

“I was talking to Garry Marshall and boom! — here I am, in 2023, and I’m doing the most wonderful character on an incredible show,” he added. “[‘Barry’ costar] Bill Hader and [executive producer] Alec Berg are brilliant human beings. They just are.”

Ron Howard On ‘Happy Days’ Reboot

This comes two months after the “Happy Days” star Ron Howard said a reboot of the show was unlikely to happen.

“I don’t think that one’s in the cards,” Howard told Fox News, adding that the cast is still “really close.”

“We’re all kind of ambitiously still pursuing other dreams, so I think [a reboot is] probably a long shot,” he continued.

We’re living in a time when it seems like everything is being rebooted. While it would be fun to see the “Happy Days” gang get back together again, perhaps that sitcom is one show that we should just leave in the past!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
