It’s been three and a half years since Beth Chapman, the wife of Duane “Dog The Bounty Hunter” Chapman, died at the age of 51 after a battle with lung cancer. Beth’s mother Bonnie Joan Johannsen passed away two months ago at the age of 82, and Dog has since responded with a beautiful tribute to his late wife and mother-in-law.

‘I’m Hopeful Beth Can Now Rest In Peace’

Daily Mail reported that one of Bonnie’s final wishes was to be buried with Beth. Dog honored her wishes by giving some of Beth’s ashes to her sister Melissa, who then placed them with Bonnie’s.

“‘I understand now what rest in peace truly means,” said Dog, 69. “I’m hopeful Beth can now rest in peace.”

Though Beth and Bonnie had a rocky relationship at times throughout their lives, they had mended their relationship by the time Beth died in 2019. In the wake of Beth’s death, her ashes have been scattered at various spots that were important to her, according to TMZ

Bonnie Passes Away

Bonnie’s obituary states that she “passed away peacefully Sunday November 20, 2022.”

“Bonnie, or BJ as her friends called her, has joined the love of her life, Raymond,  in heaven,” it added.

Beth’s daughter Cecily, who was adopted by Dog but has become estranged from him since her mother’s death, took to social media to pay tribute to her grandmother after her passing.

“To my beautiful grandmother I love you so much words can’t explain the love we had for each other always talking on the phone on a Sunday afternoon,” she wrote.

“You helped shape all the woman in our family and instilled so many great lessons in us, forever grateful of your advise, guidance and to always love one another,” Cecily added. “Rest easy my sweet gramma say hi to grandpa and mom for me we all will miss you dearly and love you unconditionally for as long as we shall live. RIP BJ.”

Dog Copes With Beth’s Death

Beth was first diagnosed with cancer back in 2017, and though she was given the all-clear after surgery, the cancer returned in 2018, according to Taste of Country. Back in June, Dog took to social media to honor Beth on the third anniversary of her death.

“You’ve been partying with the angels for three years,” he wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of Beth smiling. “I feel you all the time. Thanks for watching over us. We love you.”

“One of the last things she said [was] ‘It’s a test of my faith,’” Dog told Hawaii News Now just after Beth died. “She had faith and that was it. There’s things you go through when you’re dying, like steps like you do when you lose someone, right? You get mad at them, and then you go through all these steps. Well, the last step when you’re dying is to accept it.”

Dog has since gotten married again to Francie Frane, who also lost her husband to cancer. At the time that their engagement was announced 10 months after Beth’s death, their rep told US Weekly that “they’re very happy and looking forward to a long life together.”

We applaud Dog for making sure that one of Bonnie’s final wishes came true in a way that honors both her and Beth in such a beautiful way. Thanks to him, this mother and daughter will be together for all of eternity.
