Whoopi Goldberg Issues Groveling Apology After Latest Offensive Holocaust Comments

Earlier this week, we reported that Whoopi Goldberg had doubled down on comments that she made earlier this year, when she said that the Holocaust was not about race. Now, Goldberg is backing down with her tail between her legs, as she’s issued a groveling apology.

Goldberg’s Latest Apology

As pressure mounts for ABC to fire Goldberg from her gig co-hosting “The View,” the 67 year-old Oscar winner has issued an apology for “offensive” comments she made in which she told the Sunday Times that the Holocaust “wasn’t originally” based on race.

Daily Mail reported that in her apology, Goldberg said that it was “never my intention to appear as if I was doubling down on hurtful comments, especially after talking with and hearing people like rabbis and old and new friends weighing in.”

“Recently while doing press in London, I was asked about my comments from earlier this year. I tried to convey to the reporter what I had said and why, and attempted to recount that time,” Goldberg told Yahoo News.

“It was never my intention to appear as if I was doubling down on hurtful comments, especially after talking with and hearing people like rabbis and old and new friends weighing in,” she continued.”I’m still learning a lot and believe me, I heard everything everyone said to me.”

Goldberg Continues To Backtrack

Not stopping there, Goldberg proceeded to try to completely backtrack on the comments she made that landed her in hot water.

” I believe that the Holocaust was about race, and I am still as sorry now as I was then that I upset, hurt and angered people,” she said. “My sincere apologies again, especially to everyone who thought this was a fresh rehash of the subject. I promise it was not. In this time of rising antisemitism, I want to be very clear when I say that I always stood with the Jewish people and always will. My support for them has not wavered and never will.”

Goldberg was previously suspended by ABC back in February for saying that the Holocaust was not about race and was instead about “white on white” violence and “man’s inhumanity to man.” Though she issued an apology for her comments at the time, many feel that it was not enough, and her latest Holocaust remarks indicated that she had learned nothing from the initial scandal.

ADL Chief Slams Goldberg

Goldberg’s latest apology was issued hours after Anti-Defamation League (ADL) chief Jonathan Greenblatt publicly blasted her for her “offensive” comments.

“Whoopi Goldberg’s comments about the Holocaust and race are deeply offensive and incredibly disappointing, especially given that this is not the first time she had made remarks like this,” he said. “In a moment when antisemitic incidents have surged across the US, she should realize that making such ignorant statements can have real consequences.”

Greenblatt went on to call on Goldberg to “apologize immediately.”

“She shouldn’t do it for the ratings — she should do it simply because it’s the right thing to do,” he said. “Failure to address the issue would raise serious questions about her sincerity and solidarity with her Jewish viewers and all those who experience any form of hate.”

It goes without saying that if Goldberg were a white person who said something racially offensive about black people, she would have been fired by ABC a long time ago. At the time of this writing, ABC has yet to make any comment whatsoever about her latest Holocaust remarks. It remains to be seen whether ABC will take a stand against anti-semitism, or stand by Goldberg once again.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
