Tim Allen Reveals What He ‘Never Understood’ About The Original ‘Santa Clause’ Movie

The 1994 movie The Santa Clause has become a beloved holiday classic that spawned two sequels and a Disney + miniseries that was recently renewed for second season. While The Santa Clause star Tim Allen loves the original movie, he spoke out in a new interview to reveal the one plot hole in it that he has “never understood.”

Allen Reveals Plot Hole Of The Santa Clause

Comic Book TV reported that in a recent interview with the late night host Jimmy Fallon, Allen revealed that he “never understood” the death of Santa Clause in the movie.

“I never understood, even in the movie, why the elves, when I showed up at the North Pole didn’t go, ‘Hey what happened to the other guy?’ You know, I just hop in the sleigh with the kid and we go off,” said the 69 year-old former “Home Improvement” star. “No one ever asks, ‘Where’s- does Mrs. Claus know that the other guy is dead?'”

“There were huge holes… So they, we came up with this script, ‘The Santa Clauses,'” he continued, referring to the Disney +miniseries. “I have a family now. They end up doing all these, they fill up the holes in all this.”

Allen Gets Back In The Santa Suit

Though it’s been 28 years since the original movies, Allen had no trouble putting the Santa suit back on for “The Santa Clauses,” which premiered on Disney + last month.

“You know, you get around that suit, and I haven’t changed. It’s become that stupid thing, and it ain’t me,” Allen said, according to The New York Post. “I’m nowhere near as nice as that guy. It’s just amazing how I become that guy, walk on set and people react to it, and I honor it.”

“I don’t make any jokes anymore as I watch my performance, and I literally think I’m better as Santa Claus than I am as anything else because I think for any actor to tease or put on a costume, it’s easy to become that thing,” he added.

When it came to filming the miniseries, Allen looked at it as a “six-hour movie.”

“To get that first episode, get the fourth episode and the sixth episode in my head,” Allen explained. “I see the beginning, middle and end as though it’s a six-hour movie. I said, ‘This thing is very, very good,’ and this is early on, and we continue down this path.”

“This is a new format for me, and then I can get my head around it creatively,” he added. “It’s not a television show. It’s not a movie. It’s what we’ve been forced, challenged to do now is a hybrid. It’s a long movie or a very produced, very creatively elevated television program.”

Allen Putting The ‘Christ’ Back In Christmas

Allen previously told The Wrap that with his “Santa Clauses” miniseries, he was determined to put the “Christ” back in “Christmas.”

“It originally had a lot of otherworldly characters, and ghosts, and goblins. I said no, this is Christ-mas. Its Christ-mas. It literally is a religious holiday,” Allen said. “We don’t have to blow trumpets, but I do want you to acknowledge it. That’s what this is about. If you want to get into Santa Claus, you’re gonna have to go back to history, and it’s all about religion.”

Plot hole or no plot hole, The Santa Clause is an incredibly fun movie, so it’s no wonder that Disney + is eager for a second season of “The Santa Clauses.” God bless Allen for continuing to lead the way with this amazing series, and we can’t wait to see what he brings to it next!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
