When it comes to the world of MMA, there just might not be a bigger name than Conor McGregor.
So, when the former UFC champion is talking – or tweeting – about you, that really, really means something.
Brendan Loughnane was recently the recipient of a message delivered by “Notorious” via Twitter. And in a positive light.
Loughnane claimed the PFL featherweight title, coming out of the No. 4 seed to down Bubba Jenkins at PFL Championship.
Using his excellent striking, Loughnane was able to hold off the former wrestling standout, rallying for a fourth round finish of Jenkins.
In the deciding round, Loughnane was able to work the body of Jenkins, taking away one of his better attributes – his endurance. That led to the finish, as he connected with a big-right hand that dropped Jenkins.
Loughnane has not lost since 2021, winning each of his last four fights. That includes decisions over Chris Wade, Ago Huskic and Ryoji Kudo.
Overall, he is 26-4 with 11 wins in his last 12 fights. The lone loss came to Movlid Khaybulaev via split decision in a PFL classic.
McGregor made mention of Loughnane after the performance, calling him “money in the bank” in the process.
And while McGregor made the push for Loughnane to join him in the UFC, that isn’t in the plans for the champion.
“I’m PFL anyway,” he told MMA Fighting. “I thought it was really nice. Out of nowhere. Beautiful. Thank you.”
