The legendary former “Cheers” star Kirstie Alley sadly passed away suddenly on Monday at the age of 71 after a short and private battle with colon cancer. In the wake of her passing, a clip has resurfaced in which Alley talked about one of the biggest regrets of her life.

Alley’s Big Regret

Many will remember that after losing a whopping 75 pounds back in 2006, Alley showed off her new body for the first time by wearing a bikini on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Four years later, however, she told the late talk show host Larry King that she deeply regretted doing this.

People Magazine reported that in the 2010 interview, King asked Alley why she chose to do this big reveal.

“Let me tell you something very stupid about myself,” she explained. “This is what I said when I did that: no one is allowed to take photographs. And I thought, well, there’s no photographs, so this will be the end. I’ll walk out, I go blah blah blah, and that’s the end of that.”

“So stupid!” she continued. “All they have to do is take a frame shot…Little did I know that this would be all over YouTube, it’s had millions of hits.”

“It had a life of its own…” King said, to which a visibly exacerbated Alley replied, “It does! It was its own show.”

Alley Takes Responsibility

When asked whose idea it was for her to walk the runway in her bikini, Alley took responsibility instead of blaming someone else, which is something she easily could have done.

“Of course it wasn’t Oprah’s idea — she doesn’t have stupid ideas!” Alley said. “It was my idea. I just thought if I could get myself to come out here in a bikini, then I know that I am liberated. And then I realized, Oh my god! Now I have to live with this, the rest of my life. I made some errors in my life.”

This just goes to show what a humble and down-to-earth person Alley really was. She admitted to having a regret about making an embarrassing mistake, but instead of playing the victim as most people in Hollywood would, Alley owned up to it and took responsibility.

Alley Passes Away

The world was shocked on Monday when Alley’s two children announced that she had died of a cancer that was only “recently discovered,” and her rep later confirmed that it was colon cancer.

“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her neverending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead,” her children said. “As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”

They added that Alley’s “zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did.”

Alley was one of the few people in Hollywood who was never afraid to tell it like it is, and she will be dearly missed by millions. Please join us in saying a prayer for her family and friends during this difficult time.
