The country music legend Dolly Parton has done many things throughout her career, but there’s one thing that she recently made headlines for that she’s already regretting in a big way.

‘You Have No Idea How That Has Bothered Me’

While appearing on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Parton admitted that she is already regretting locking an original song that she wrote for her Pigeon Forge, Tennessee theme park Dollywood in a time capsule that will not be opened for another 23 years. She was talked into the stunt back in 2015, according to Daily Mail, but deciding to go through with it was not easy for her.

“You have no idea how that has bothered me,” Parton confessed. “I wanna go dig that up so bad. It’s a really good song!”

Parton, 76, went on to point out that by the time the time capsule is finally opened, she’ll be 99 years-old if she’s still alive.

“I have written a song that nobody’s going to hear until I’m 99-years-old,” she lamented. “And I might be there and I might not be.”

‘I Don’t Know Whose D*** Idea That Was’

“I don’t know whose d*** idea that was,” Parton added. “They weren’t expecting me to be there at all, and I probably won’t be. I might be there, who knows. I figure it’ll probably disintegrate and nobody will ever hear it, that’s what bothers me. If it rots in there before they open it.”

Parton had previously opened up about how locking away this song felt in her 2020 memoir Songteller: My Life in Lyrics, writing that it was “like burying one of my kids, putting it on ice or something, and I won’t be around to see it brought back to life.”

“It’s just burning me up inside that I have to leave it in there,” she added, according to People Magazine.

Parton had crews bury the time capsule, which included the recording of the song along with other things of the time like a cassette player and a CD player, when construction was being done on Dollywood back in 2015. The capsule is not scheduled to be opened until the year 2045.

Parton Performs Impromptu Duet With Clarkson

During her appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Parton performed her hit song “I Will Always Love You” as an impromptu duet with the talk show host.

Check that out for yourself in the video below.

Parton wrote and recorded the original version of the song, and she’s never forgotten when she first heard Whitney Houston’s version of it.

“I was just driving along, I had the radio on and I just heard this…” she told Clarkson as she then sang the opening part of the song.

“When it went into ‘And I,’ I just freaked out,” she recalled. “I had to pull over to the side because I honestly thought that I was going to wreck. It was the most overwhelming feeling and you know how great that was.”

Parton Is ‘A Magical Fairy Human’

In the end, Clarkson was overwhelmed by how beautiful Parton’s voice was after she sang part of the song.

“Your breaks in your voice are so magical,” she told her. “You’re like a magical fairy human.”

Parton truly is magical, and there will never be another one like her. We can only hope that she’s still around when her time capsule is opened, because we can’t imagine the world without Dolly Parton!
