Last month, we reported that Sylvester Stallone and his wife Jennifer Flavin, who he’s been married to for 25 years, had reconciled after she filed for divorce over the summer. Now, Stallone is opening up about the “tragic mistake” he made that led to her deciding to file.
“Sometimes I put the work ahead of [my family], and that is a tragic mistake which won’t happen again,” Stallone, 76, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Stallone also said that Flavin’s divorce filing and their reconciliation will be featured in the reality show that they have been working on with their three daughters.
“Of course it’s part of the show,” Stallone explained. “It’s the John Lennon thing: ‘Life is what happens when you’re making other plans.’ Hopefully you’re involved with people who understand the foibles of life and the fragility of it and how rare a real good relationship is.”
Family is Stallone’s main priority right now because he feels “as though I wasted a lot of time” in his career and “now I realize there are only so many bullets left in the gun.”
“When you’re young, you’re just haphazardly shooting wildly and hope you hit something,” he said. “Now you don’t have the luxury of missing — especially with the family and the kids. I find that to be my biggest regret.”
“Everyone goes, ‘I wish I’d shown love more,’ or ‘I wish I’d spent more time with the kids,'” Stallone continued. “I’m riding that boat. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to do the reality show that I’ve been taking a lot of s— for.”
“This is a chance where I’m going to be with my kids under a work condition where they get to see me in action and I get to see them in action,” he said of the reality show. “What you will see is the real truth. This is a great opportunity.”
Stallone and Flavin are parents to daughters Sophia, 26, Sistine, 24, and Scarlet, 20. The Rocky star was also father to two sons from a previous marriage, Seargeoh and Sage, the latter of whom sadly passed away in 2012.

People Magazine reported that in another interview last month, Stallone discussed the regrets he has when it comes to his children.
“I didn’t pay enough attention when they were growing up,” he confessed. “I was so career-oriented, and now I go, ‘Okay, I don’t have that much runway up ahead, and I want to start asking them about their lives.'”
“I ask them about their day, and they started at first a little monosyllabic,” Stallone added. “Then I heard one say, ‘I was just thinking about you.’ Oh, my God. I’ve never heard that before in my life. When a daughter knows you care, she’s there forever.”
Flavin initially filed for divorce back in August, and while it seemed to be contentious at first, they reconciled just over a month later towards the end of September.
“They decided to meet back up at home, where they talked and were able to work out their differences,” Stallone’s rep told Page Six after the reconciliation. “They are both extremely happy.”
It will certainly be interesting to see how all of this plays out on the Stallone family’s upcoming reality show. At the time of this writing, it’s unclear when the reality show will be premiering.
