Candace Cameron Bure of “Full House” and “Fuller House” fame is being hit with backlash online after saying that her new network Great American Family will focus on “traditional marriage.” She said this as she explained that she is determined to make Christmas movies that will focus on Christianity.
“I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core,” Cameron Bure, 46, told the Wall Street Journal, referring to the network she signed with earlier this year after leaving the Hallmark Channel back in April.
Prior to inking this deal, Cameron Bure had made 10 Christmas movies and 20 other films for Hallmark over the years.
“My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them,” she said. “I knew that the people behind Great American Family were Christians that love the Lord and wanted to promote faith programming and good family entertainment.”
Social media users have not taken her reasoning behind leaving Hallmark well, with some branding her as a “bigot” for her comments about traditional marriage.

Cameron Bure had previously explained that she signed with Great American Family because she feels her views better align with that network.
“I’m very excited to develop heartwarming family and faith-filled programming and make the kind of stories my family and I love to watch,” she said, according to Fox News. “I am constantly looking for ways that I can inspire people to live life with purpose.”
While Cameron Bure did not specifically mention Hallmark by name, she appeared to reference being unhappy at that network because “it basically is a completely different network than when I started because of the change of leadership.”
The current head of Great American Family is Bill Abbott, who was formerly the CEO of the Hallmark Channel.
Cameron Bure’s first movie with Great American Family is “A Christmas … Present,” which is set to come out later this month. People Magazine reported that in this movie, Cameron Bure will be playing a real estate agent named Maggie, who is described as “an overly scheduled real estate agent and Type-A mom who takes her family to spend Christmas with her widowed brother and his daughter. Maggie and her brother have decidedly different expectations for the holiday. Through a series of transformative events, Maggie learns to embrace the reason for the season.”

When asked if Great American Family will make movies about non-Christian holidays, Cameron Bure fired back by saying, “Well, this year, we’re absolutely focusing on Christmas.”
“I’m sure as the channel continues to build content, it will include other holidays, but I think we know the core audience and what they love is exactly how Bill originally built the Hallmark Channel and that was Christmas and those traditional holidays and so that’s what the focus is going to be,” she continued. “You got to start somewhere. You can’t do everything at once.”
Cameron Bure has long been one of the only openly conservative Christian actresses in Hollywood, so the backlash that she’s receiving from the left about her latest comments is nothing new for her. It remains to be seen whether she’ll cave to the liberal mob on this, or if she’ll stay strong in her convictions.
