79kg FS - Jordan Ernest BURROUGHS (USA)

The best wrestlers from the United States made history in Belgrade recently.

David Taylor, Jordan Burroughs, Kyle Dake and Kyle Snyder all claimed titles at the 2022 World Championships. The four crowns tied the record set by the U.S. in both 1993 and 1995.

Team USA also finished off its fourth World Team title in men’s freestyle with 198 points, well ahead of Iran and Japan. They have claimed titles in 1993, ’95, 2017 and now ’22.

Taylor avenged a loss to Hassan Yazdani at the World Championships last year in the final, 7-1.

“This is the first time I’ve really gone into wrestling Yazdani with super strict intentions,” Taylor said. “And I followed that. He’s burning that fire for me to continue going. He’s that barrier to me and a gold medal in Paris.”

Burroughs tied Adeline Gray’s record for the most-ever world golds by an American at six with a one-sided victory over Mohammad Nokhodi.

“I feel amazing,” Burroughs said. “All I can say is, God is good. My family, my coaches, and my training partners. I just think about all of the people who put so much work into helping me get to this platform. You guys get to see the championships, the hard double-legs, and the commitment here, but you rarely get to see the definition of what makes a champion behind the scenes.”
