Val Kilmer Reveals Whether He’d Ever Play Batman Again

The Hollywood star Val Kilmer, who recently made a cameo in the hit movie Top Gun: Maverick, has just revealed whether he’d ever play the iconic role of Batman again. He previously starred as Batman in the 1995 movie Batman Forever.

Kilmer Wants To Play Batman Again

“Would you have any interest in playing Batman/Bruce Wayne again even in a cameo?” Kilmer, 62, was asked by IGN.

“Yea please,” he replied.

Batman Forever was a huge hit at the box office when it was released in 1995, becoming the sixth highest-grossing film worldwide that year.

Kilmer Talks Top Gun: Maverick

Fox News reported that in his latest interview, Kilmer also talked about what it was like to appear in Top Gun: Maverick so many years after the first movie came out back in 1986.

“During the first [‘Top Gun’] film we had a blast as young actors!!” Kilmer said. “I was blown away by the scale of the sets! I have fond memories of the ‘behind the scenes!’”

“Most of film work is WAITING!!!” he added. “Takes a lot of discipline. On the new one, it was just nice to be with Tom and get the chance to connect again!!”

The Los Angeles Times reported that Kilmer took part in this interview via email, as his voice was greatly weakened by a tracheostomy he underwent after he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014. Kilmer’s character of Iceman in Top Gun: Maverick also suffers from throat cancer and speaks with the help of A.I.

When asked if he was “happy with Iceman’s story arc” in Top Gun: Maverick, Kilmer replied by saying, “Well, actors ALWAYS want to do more so there’s that…”

After opening over Memorial Day weekend, Top Gun: Maverick made a whopping $124 million at the North American box office. It has since stayed near the top of the charts for 13 consecutive weeks and counting, and it had grossed $1.4 billion globally as of last Sunday.

“I don’t know if I’ve wrapped my head around it,” the film’s director Joseph Kosinski recently told Variety. “I’m amazed every day that it continues to play.”

Kilmer Discusses Tracheotomy

The experience of being in a hit movie again clearly meant a lot to Kilmer, who opened up about how his tracheotomy changed the way he communicates in his 2020 autobiographical documentary Val

“I obviously am sounding much worse than I feel,” he said in the movie as he held a finger over the incision on his throat, which is often obscured by a kerchief or scarf. “I can speak without plugging this hole. You have to make the choice to breathe or to eat… It’s an obstacle that is very present with whoever sees me.”

Earlier in 2020, Kilmer had said that he had the procedure done to help alleviate the pain that he was experiencing as part of his recovery.

“I feel a lot better than I sound, but I feel wonderful,” he said. “I was diagnosed with throat cancer, which healed very quickly. This is a tracheotomy to help me breathe because the glands in my throat swelled up as well.”

We’re so glad that Kilmer appears to be doing so well, and we’d love to see him play Batman again! Here’s hoping Hollywood makes that happen somehow at some point in the future.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
