Monica Lewinsky Calls On Beyonce To Remove Lyric About Her Affair With Bill Clinton From Song

Monica Lewinsky is demanding that Beyonce remove a lyric about her affair with the former President Bill Clinton from her 2013 song “Partition.” This came after Beyonce pledged to remove an ablest slur from her new Renaissance song “Heated.” 

Lewinsky Calls On Beyonce To Remove Lyric

“uhmm, while we’re at it…. #Partition,” Lewinsky, 49, tweeted alongside a link to a Variety article that reported on the Beyonce and Kellis situation.

Daily Mail reported that the lyric Lewinsky is referring to from “Partition” reads: “Now my mascara running, red lipstick smudged/Oh, me so horny, yeah, he want to f**k/He popped all my buttons, and he ripped my blouse/He Monica Lewinsky-ed all on my gown.”

‘Partition’ Lyric About Beyonce

Lewinsky was infamously a 22 year-old White House intern when she engaged in an affair with Clinton between 1995 and 1997, and this ultimately led to his impeachment on December 19, 1998. Lewinsky had previously called on Beyonce to remove the “Partition” lyric in a 2014 article published by Vanity Fair.

“Miley Cyrus references me in her twerking stage act, Eminem raps about me, and Beyoncé’s latest hit gives me a shout-out. Thanks, Beyoncé,” Lewinsky wrote, “but if we’re verbing, I think you meant ‘Bill Clinton’d all on my gown,’ not ‘Monica Lewinsky’d.'”

Entertainment Weekly reported that Lewinsky later clarified that she’d touched on the reference in an attempt to”find humor in painful/humiliating things,” and that she’d never actually reached out to Beyonce’s team to ask for the lyric to be removed. Clearly, in the eight years since then, Lewinsky has changed her mind on this and now wants Beyonce to change the lyric after all.

Beyonce Removed Ableist Slur From Song

This comes after Beyonce, 40, vowed to remove an ableist slur from her song “Heated” on her new album “Renaissance.” The lyric in question reads: “Sp**zin’ on that ass, s**z on that ass.”

“The word, not used intentionally in a harmful manner, will be replaced in the lyrics,” Beyonce said in a brief statement that noticeably did not include an apology.

While this slur can mean “freak out” or “go crazy,” it’s also known to come from the word “spastic,” which has been deemed an ableist term. Warren Kirwan, Media Manager at disability equality charity Scope, slammed Beyonce for including the word in her song. 

“It’s appalling that one of the world’s biggest stars has chosen to include this deeply offensive term,” he said. “Just weeks ago, Lizzo received a huge backlash from fans who felt hurt and let down after she used the same abhorrent language.”

Kirwan is referring to the fact that the singer Lizzo also had to remove this slur from one of her songs just a few weeks ago. 

‘Words Matter’

“Thankfully she did the right thing and re-recorded the song. It’s hard to believe that could have gone unnoticed by Beyoncé’s team,” Kirwan added.

“Words matter because they reinforce the negative attitudes disabled people face every day, and which impact on every aspect of disabled people’s lives,” he concluded. “Beyoncé has long been a champion of inclusivity and equality, so we’d urge her to remove this offensive lyric.”

In the years since her Clinton scandal, Lewinsky has become an anti-bullying advocate. It will certainly be interesting to see if Beyonce responds to her request about her “Partition” lyric.
