AEW boss Tony Khan is opening up about his somewhat controversial tweet towards Vince McMahon’s retirement. And, great news for Bryan Danielson.

The wrestling world was thrown for a loop Friday afternoon. It felt like a typical Friday preparing for SmackDown before a major announcement was made.

Vince McMahon announced his complete retirement from WWE. Therefore, many changes were made quickly behind the scenes.

Plenty of people reacted to the decision, including AEW’s boss Tony Khan. In fact, he sent out a controversial tweet claiming to be the longest tenured CEO in pro wrestling.

The brash comment left many shaking their head. At the Ring of Honor Death Before Dishonor post-show media scrum, Khan clarified his remarks.

“I was referencing that AEW Rampage was on and just the fact that of the big major companies, who I would consider ‘the big three,’ now I am the longest tenured [CEO] of course,” said Khan. “I think if you consider pro wrestling, it’s a fair statement.” 

“So, I just thought it’s a factual statement, a note to promote Rampage but that’s all it was. I can’t say anything else about it.”

“Obviously hopefully got some eyeballs on Rampage and I really care about Rampage a lot. On a Friday, sometimes I will try to promote Rampage in fun ways.”

Considering Vince has been running WWE for decades, fans were not too interested in Rampage. The same might be said for SmackDown, but there was the whole Brock Lesnar walking out fiasco.

The timing of Vince’s retirement should not come as a surprise. For the past few weeks, we have been learning about hush money settlements.

We will see if Vince actually stays away from WWE. He can return whenever and will probably give orders through another person.

Right now, WWE is in waters they have not seen for decades as Vince supposedly steps away.

There is no denying AEW has run into trouble with injuries as of late. They are down top stars like Kenny Omega, Adam Cole and CM Punk.

Bryan Danielson was also part of that list, but things have changed. On the Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez mentioned how Danielson has been cleared for action.

The news is great because there was no timeframe for his return from concussion. Because of his past, AEW wanted to be very careful handling Bryan.

And, he is getting right back to action. On this Wednesday’s Dynamite, he will take on Daniel Garcia.

Eventually, AEW will want Bryan to face off against top NJPW wrestler, Zack Sabre Jr. They were going to wrestle at Forbidden Door, but Danielson had to withdraw due to injury.

Slowly, AEW seems to be gaining back some of their biggest draws.
