The PFL playoffs begin August 5 and Josh Silveira has the opportunity of a lifetime.

Silveira has been tabbed to replace Antonio Carlos Junior. He will face Omari Akhmedov in one semifinal in the light heavyweight division.

The bout is part of the ESPN main card from Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. In the headline act, Anthony Pettis battles Stevie Ray.

Carlos Junior was the defending 2021 light heavyweight champion. And also a favorite to repeat in the division.

However, the Brazilian is set for surgery to repair his ACL and has been replaced by Silveira.

During the regular season, Silveira just missed out on advance, finishing tied with for the final spot. He earned a first round win in his lone bout, stopping Marthin Hamlet in the opening round with strikes.

He was scheduled to meet Emiliano Sordi, but the fight was canceled. Back in February, Silveira bested Mohamed Juma on the PFL Challenger Series to punch his ticket into the season.

Overall, he is now 9-0 with eight of the nine wins being by way of finish. This is a very, very dangerous man who will be entering the SmartCage with a nothing-to-lose mentality.

The winner between Silveira and Akhmedov meets Rob Wilkinson or Delan Monte in the finals later this year.
