Karate Combat Signs Bruno Souza, Dean Barry To Contracts

Karate Combat has added Bruno Souza and Dean Barry to fight contracts.

Souza will compete in the lightweight division and Barry welterweight. The next Karate Combat event is set for August 27 from The Backlost at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

Barry, fighting out of Dublin, Ireland, is also a UFC veteran with considerable karate pedigree. Raised in a family of practitioners, his expertise and multiple world championships won him friends in high places: in 2017 he was hand-picked by Georges St-Pierre to be a sparring partner for him at the TriStar gym in Canada.

Souza, a UFC veteran and former LFA World Featherweight Champion, is a protege of former UFC light-heavyweight world champion Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida, having trained at the Machida Dojo in Belem, Brazil from the age of four.

The promotion also signed Maciej Tercjak, who will join Souza at lightweight.

Poland’s Tercjak is a Kyokushin Karate stylist with several national and European championships to his name. He has also competed in professional kickboxing, winning his latest bout earlier this year by way of a first-round head-kick knockout.

“We want Karate Combat to be home to the best stand-up fighters in the world and we are always scouting world-class talent to add to our roster. Bruno Souza and Dean Barry have fought on the biggest platforms in the world and I’m excited to welcome them back to their karate roots, while Tercjak has an explosive style I think our fans will love. This is only the beginning – we’ve got some huge signings coming up,” said Karate Combat President Adam Kovacs.
