The weeks-long saga between actor Johnny Depp and his ex-wife actress Amber Heard finally came to an end Wednesday as the Virginia jury reached a verdict in Depp’s defamation trial.
The jury found in favor of Depp, who sued his ex over an op-ed she published where the Aquaman star claimed Depp regularly beat and abused her.
The trail has been marked by surrealness and at times humor as Depp held himself well on the stand, while Heard’s story about abuse fell apart under intense scrutiny.
As part of the settlement, Heard will have to pay Depp $15 million in damages.
Analysts said the case was less about the money and more about Depp attempting to regain his reputation after Heard tarnished it in an op-ed published in the Washington Post.
Throughout the trial, many of Depp’s friends and former lovers came to the acting icon’s defense.
It wasn’t a total loss for Heard though, she will receive $2 million due to defamation on the part of Depp’s lawyer in a statement given to the Daily Mail.
Reaction to this decision is mixed, with many siding with Depp.
Some pundits noted Washington Post’s role in the scandal.
