PFL 5: Bruno Cappelozza, Anthony Pettis Suffer Upsets

Bruno Cappelozza and Anthony Pettis were both dealt upset losses at PFL 5 Friday night, but both advanced to the playoff round of the league.

Bruno Cappelozza and Anthony Pettis were dealt stunning losses at PFL 5 Friday night.

Cappelozza, the reigning heavyweight champion, was bested by Matheus Scheffel in the main event. The card aired live on ESPN and ESPN+ from Atlanta.

Despite the defeat, Cappelozza advanced to the playoff round. The same for Pettis, who was topped by Stevie Ray.

“Tonight the second half of the 2022 PFL Regular Season continued on ESPN from OTE Arena in Atlanta with major PFL Playoff implications,” said PFL CEO Peter Murray. “The PFL’s season format continues to deliver the best action to millions of MMA fans across the globe as each fight is truly a must win.”

“The athletes in PFL’s Heavyweight and Featherweight divisions showcased what it takes to be a champion,” said PFL President of Fighter Operations Ray Sefo. “The 2022 PFL Playoff positions were on the line tonight and as is always the case in the PFL, the fighters rose to the occasion and put on an electrifying show for our fans.”

Klidson Abreu downed Renan Ferreira, Chris Wade finished Kyle Bochniak, Ante Delija topped Shelton Graves, Bubba Jenkins bested Reinaldo Ekson and Denis Goltsov downed Maurice Greene.

On the prelims, Lance Palmer, Juan Adams, Ryoji Kudo and Brendan Loughnane were winners.
