Wynonna Judd To Break Her Family’s “Cycle Of Addiction & Dysfunction”

It’s been one month since the legendary country music star Naomi Judd took her own life at the age of 76, but her fans are still reeling from her passing. Now, her country music icon daughter Wynonna Judd is saying that she’ll never “be able to fully accept” that her mother committed suicide.

‘Checking In’

“Checking in. There is so much happening in the world right now,” Wynonna wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of herself performing.

“Before I sat down to write this, I thought, ‘No…I just don’t know what to say.’ Then, I heard the words from my life coach asking me, ‘What do you know?’ And I began to cry,” she continued.

“WHAT DO I KNOW??” Wynonna added. “I DO know, that the pain of losing Mom on 4/30 to suicide is so great, that I often feel like I’m not ever going to be able to fully accept and surrender to the truth that she left the way she did. This cannot be how The Judds story ends.”

Wynonna went on to say that in order to be there for her surviving family members, she is determined to “continue to show up for myself {first} and do the personal healing work.” She additionally wants to “break the cycle of addiction & family dysfunction.”

This was likely a reference not only to her late mother’s mental illness struggles, but also to the fact that her daughter Grace, who is currently in prison serving an eight year sentence for drug charges.

‘I Feel So Helpless’

“I know that it is a simple steps program, and those steps are not easy to take at times,” Wynonna explained, adding that she “made a commitment to keep doing the ‘next right thing,’ and schedule weekly appointments so that I continue with the ongoing work, even when I have good days.”

“I DO know, that I feel so helpless—right now especially,” she stated. “I DO know, that as corny as it sounds, ‘Love Can Build A Bridge.’ I find myself humming the song that Mom wrote for the fans, to myself here on the farm at night.”

Wynonna ended her emotional post by saying that she’s aware that she can’t “do this grieving thing all by myself…it’s okay to reach out for help.”

“I will continue to fight for my faith, for my SELF, for my family, and I WILL continue to show up & sing,” she concluded.

Naomi’s Death

People Magazine reported that Wynonna and her sister Ashley announced their mother’s death within hours of her passing on April 30.

“Today we sisters experienced a tragedy,” they said at the time. “We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory.”

The next day, Wynonna and her late mother were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

“Though my heart’s broken, I will continue to sing, because that’s what we do,” Wynonna said as she accepted the honor for both her and her mother.

Wynonna has since announced that she will be completing the tour she’d planned to go on with her mother later this year. Please join us in saying a prayer for her and her family as they continue to grieve the legendary Naomi Judd.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
