The comedian Ricky Gervais is being hit with backlash for jokes that he made about transgender people in his new Netflix special “SuperNature,” which dropped on Tuesday morning.

‘I Love The New Women’

“I love the new women,” Gervais said in the special, according to The New York Post. “They’re great, aren’t they? The new ones we’ve been seeing lately. The ones with beards and c – – ks. They’re as good as gold, I love them.”

“And now the old-fashioned ones say, ‘Oh, they want to use our toilets.’ ‘Why shouldn’t they use your toilets?’ ‘For ladies!’” he added, referring to the transgender bathroom controversy.

“‘They are ladies — look at their pronouns! What about this person isn’t a lady?’” Gervais continued. “‘Well, his penis.’ ‘Her penis, you f – – king bigot!’ ‘What if he rapes me?’ ‘What if she rapes you, you f – – king TERF w – – re?'”

“TERF” is an acronym for Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist, a term used for people who reject the idea that transgender women are real women.

Gervais Doubles Down

Gervais went on to double down when he touched on Kevin Hart having to drop out as the host of the 2018 Oscars due to old tweets that were deemed to be homophobic.

“You can’t predict what will be offensive in the future,” Gervais said. “Like, the worst thing you can say today, get you canceled on Twitter, death threats, the worst thing you can say today is, ‘Women don’t have penises,’ right? Now, no one saw that coming.”

“You won’t find a ten-year-old tweet saying ‘Women don’t have penises.’ You know why? We didn’t think we f – – king had to!” he added.

Despite all of this, Gervais also said that he supports transgender people.

“Full disclosure: In real life of course I support trans rights. I support all human rights, and trans rights are human rights,” he insisted. “Live your best life. Use your preferred pronouns. Be the gender that you feel you are. But meet me halfway, ladies. Lose the c – – k. That’s all I’m saying.”

Gervais Hit With Backlash

The backlash against Gervais has been swift on social media, with Twitter users calling for Gervais to be canceled for his special.

“Ricky Gervais has a new stand-up show out on Netflix today,” one user wrote. “5 minutes in and he’s making jokes about trans women attacking and raping people in public bathrooms. To him, we exist only as a punchline, a threat, something less than human.”

“If you’re a comedian and you support trans people it’s your responsibility to be speaking out against Dave Chappelle and the new Ricky Gervais special,” another added. “At this point, you can’t call yourself an ally if you’re not publicly taking a stand against it. it’s the bare minimum.”

Others, however, praised Gervais for the special, with one user writing, “5 minutes into Ricky Gervais’ special and he’s already mentioned ‘old type of women’ ‘the ones with wombs’ being dinosaurs and respecting a rapist’s pronouns. Here we go!”

Gervais regularly speaks out against cancel culture, and he’s even said that he wants to be canceled. With this special, that wish may just come true for him, as it’s unlikely that the “woke” left is going to let these jokes slide.
