Ray Liotta, an actor known for playing complicated tough guys, has passed away at 67. Liotta died in his sleep while filming a movie in the Dominican Republic.

Ray Liotta’s Career

Liotta first gained fame in 1986’s Something Wild, which garnered him numerous nominations, including a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

The biggest role of his career came as gangster Henry Hill in the Martin Scorsese classic, Goodfellas. The role brought him fame and brought audiences perhaps the best closing monologue of any film.

Following Goodfellas, Liotta starred in several hit movies including Field of Dreams, Corina, Corina opposite Whoppi Goldberg, and a personal favorite from my childhood, Operation Dumbo Drop.

In the late 90s and 2000s, Liotta starred in a string of underrated crime films including Copland, Narc, Identity, Smokin’ Aces, and Killing Them Softly.

Of course, everyone is going to say you should watch Goodfellas tonight. And while it is no doubt a classic, I think Narc or Smokin’ Aces might be worth your time. Both are excellent films where Liotta gives honest, grounded, yet complex performances.
